Gears Of War 2
« on: November 04, 2008, 05:52:20 PM »
Comes out this friday and I'm SUPER excited.

Completing the story isn't at the top of my "things to do when I get this game" list, but I'll complete it nonetheless...

I'm really looking forward to the multiplayer...

For those of you who played the first gears... the online play was absolutely horrible for beginners.  If you tried using the underpowered lancer, you would simply get shotgunned by some ego-bruised teenager who plays gears to escape his worries, or a black guy who's foot couldn't go any farther into his mouth.  The community SUCKED, and the gameplay SUCKED.

What should've been a strategic, team-work based shooter turned into a shotgun frenzy with no tactical plan or strategy involved.

Luckily, the people of gears 2 know this, and so they implemented a new thing called stopping power.  Say no more to the shotgun run and gun.  If you are repeatedly shot, you will slow down...

For example :  Ego-bruised kid charges at the team with a shotgun... why wouldn't he?  In gears 1 he could take on an entire team no problem.  He charges in blindly, getting ready to wall-bounce when BOOM...  the poison grenade goes off and as he crawls around on the ground dying and frustrated, somebody picks him up as a meatshield.  Now he watches as he helplessly gets shot repeatedly by his own teammates as they try to shoot whoever's holding him.

Example 2: Ego-bruised kid see's a lone COG soldier sniping behind a stone wall.  Obviously, since the soldier has a sniper he is no match at close ranged combat.  He sprints up to the bunker, but the soldier is expecting him, and takes out his lancer.  He blindfires at the ego-bruised kid only a few feet from killing him, but he will go no farther as he is just as slow.

These are the things I love to see...  teamwork... fire being exchanged back and forth from a DISTANCE, and not at each other's faces (although that can be fun too)

I watch the videos of ego-bruised kids still trying the run and gun tactic with their shotty and it doesnt work out for them at all...  I LOVE IT.

What are your thoughts about gears of war 2?

If it turns out like it's supposed to be it'll be one hell of a game.

If you really feel like getting caught up in the story, get gears one, or read a summary of it, because I have a feeling that without getting caught up, you'll get totally lost in the story.

The next Call of Duty is coming out 4 days after GoW2, you might be more interested in that game. You can download a free multiplayer demo off of the Xbox Live Marketplace, if you want to try it out.

I personally am more excited for gears 2...

Cod 5 is pretty much going to be just like modern combat, but in a WW2 setting with a few more gametypes and vehicles.  Same engine, same upgrade/lvl system, and same gameplay mechanics.

Gears 2 is that, but with a new engine, more enemies, more... EVERYTHING, and better online play.

I've been playing the COD5 beta, hell of a game, but the dogs are WAY too over powered.

The story is the best part of GoW 2 though it's still quite a fun game and sadly, just as short as the first game.

Actually, no. COD5 is made by different people than the 4th one. Playing the beta release, you get a whole different feel. And ya the dogs are WAY to strong.

I was playing the cod5 beta yesterday... I like it alot more than cod4, but I don't really know why...

To me it's almost the exact same game, but with WW2 weapons... so what makes it feel so much more fun?

I think the dogs are a good match with the helicopter, they're about as easy to defend against/avoid. Especially on Makin where all you have to do is sit in the water. (dogs won't go in water)

Looks like material for 10-12 year olds. My 8-year kid would probably scream after that game.
