Anti-forum-spam idea
« on: October 20, 2008, 04:11:19 AM »
So, looking at all the threads I missed while I was off learning to fix an over-glorified switch, and I see a little bit of spam managed to make its way into the forum. This got me thinking (dangerous, I know), and I think I may of come up with a relatively painless way to stop the spambots:

A captcha. Ok, not a normal one reminiscent of those 'can you see the dolphin' pictures, but an AH captcha. Lets say, if someone has less than (picking a number from nowhere here) 25 posts, then whenever they go to post in the forum, it shows them one of the planes from in game and asks them to identify it. We can even make it easy and keep it to just the base model of the aircraft, rather than it's various marks. I'm fairly certain the bots aren't smart enough to be able to tell a Spit from a Lala, and it might even help newbies learn to identify the various rides present here.

So, decent idea, or is foxy crazy?

Another was could be asking simple questions relating to the game. Examples: What is the default key to start your engine? How many countries are there in the main arenas? etc.

Another way to stop new members spamming is only allowing one new topic per day until you reach a certain post number.

I have couple of different ideas.

1) HTC need to ban everybody who post several stupid or beaten-to-death wishes for week or so and delete their posts/threads.
2) Ppl should stop posting in stupid and beaten-to-death threads.
3) Ppl should stop spamming BBS with anti-noob/squeakers/spam threads.

It should help I believe  :noid

There are dozen non-HTC mods in O'Club.
Anyway, I dont care about O'Club or General Discussion forums but Wishlist only.

Sheesh, all this because I wanted to make spam-bots have a harder time posting ads and junk in our forum.
