Joystick kerflewy after system reinstall
« on: October 23, 2008, 02:14:24 PM »
I was forced to reinstall my operating system last night due to a nasty virus that blew past my Anti-Viral software..

I have reinstalled AH2, but now my joystick isn't working properly in game.

The joystick is an old MS SIdewinder Pro, worked great before the system reinstall.  When I calibrate the joystick in Windows, everything works fine.  When I go into the game, calibrate in game, my x-axis (elevator) isn't working when I pull the stick straight back or push it straight forward.  The only way I can get any elevator response is to input y axis at the same time.  So, I can roll and get elevator input, but without the aileron input the elevator input isnt registering.

I have calibrated the thing a dozen times, both in Windows and in game.  I can't figure out what is going on.

Any ideas?

It's USB , correct?

Try unplugging it and move to another slot.

Yes it is USB.  Tried plugging into another port.  Re-calibrated in Windows and in game, no luck.  X-Axis is still dead when I pull straight back or push straight forward.  X-Axis is fine in Windows though.  I'm seriously confused.

How wierd.  You've probably done the "usual" already I assume, updated drivers (don't forget to update your USB drivers too as this is a USB device.  I have had devices partialy work before on me because I was using very outdated USB drivers), etc.?  Does the game recognize it as a MS Sidewinder Pro from the controller menu?  If you installed the game before instaling the stick, try uninstaling the game and reinstalling it... otherwise this is a wierd one, wish I could help more.

Yes, AH2 is seeing the controller as what it is.  I'll check on the USB drivers.

As far as I can tell, the USB drivers are good.

Interesting, i have a logitech wingman stick, almost exact same thing.  I can go down, but pulling back is very unresponsive.

EUREKA!

I figured out my error.  I mistakenly assigned the elevator control to the x-axis and the aileron control to the y-axis.  On a hunch, I just reversed it so that the elevator is set to the y-axis and ailerons to the x-axis.  Viola!  Problem solved.

That's what I thought it likely was, but I also thought you just did a complete reinstall, so by default it should be mapped correctly.

Actually, the joystick wasn't mapped at all when I reinstalled AH2.  I had to go through it all manually.
