Verizon Fios

Anyone have any experience with Fios, specifically with the multi-room HD DVR? I've been offered a pretty sweet deal on this thing, but the capabilities are kinda fuzzy. What can the DVR do and what are its limitations?

I install fios,
the capabilities for the multi room dvr are this
its a dual tuner so you can record 1 show and watch another OR record 2 shows but you have to be watching one of them OR be watching a previously recorded show while recording 2 shows.
now the multi-room part you can watch a recorded show on your "standard" stb's <currently 2 at once soon to be 4 at once after oct 23rd depending on where you live> you can play, ffwrd, rewind and pause from the other stb. you can only record from or delete from the main dvr.
we are doing a upgrade later this month for the Texas region to be able to watch HD recordings if you have a HD stb in another room. We are also adding more widgets where you can get weather, traffic <current> headline news, sports scores, and horoscopes on your tv PLUS there will be certain games you can play on your tv.

hope that answers your questions. if ya need more info let me know
Crap now I gotta redo my cool sig.....crap!!! I cant remeber how to do it all !!!!!

Excellet WildCrd

So it is basically a dual tuner with output to 2 remote TV's instead of 1? Can I watch 2 different live shows on 2 different TV's? Can I pause and rewind live TV? Can I do it on more than one TV?

I ask because my Dish DVR does all of those things and I don't want to downgrade significantly, but I have 2 separate dual tuner boxes running 4 TV's. I have fiber optic available so Verizon is offering a package with gawdawful fast internet and phone etc.

Thanks

Its a different setup than dish or direct tv uses. they "cheat" insofar as that they actually hookup the other tv's in your house to your main box.
what we do is use MOCA Multimedia Over Coax Alliance.
basically instead of your coax having 1 way signal we use it for both directions.

for instance I have the multi-room HD DVR in my family room a standard stb in my master bedroom and in my office. I can watch recorded shows on either of my standard stb's comming from my DVR. so my DVR is considered the Hub for the other 2 stb's for RECORDED shows. otherwise the other 2 operate just like a regular stb where you can watch different shows and use Video On Demand <VOD>.
The boxes all pull a IP from the router you will get <free> that allows them to have the guide, VOD and PPV as well as all other interactive features
NOTE: it IS NOT video over IP just in case someone was wondering that would be ATT's uverse crapola

we dont do remote tv's off of a central box like satalite does.

Every cust I have installed that had satalite setup like yours has liked our setup alot better.

you can pause, rewind and stuff live TV from the DVR. if its a recorded show and your watching it on one of the standard stb's they also can pause rwnd and ffwr the RECORDED show.

to keep it simple, each tv will require either a standard stb , dvr or a digital converter <not worth the price imnsho> instead of running 4 tv's off of just 2 stb's like the satalite co's do

So you can pause and rewind live shows only from the main TV (hooked to the DVR)? Or am I missing something here?

so everyone can sit in a different room and watch the same recorded program?

never saw the value in a multi room dvr. I have two hd dvr's on my main hd tv and use both some nights as they can only record two shows at a time and you have to watch one of the two you are recording. With two, we never watch anything live anymore.

how much does Verizon charge per box per month? No analog signal so every tv needs a box right?

I currently have a dual tuner DVR running 2 TV's.  So I can tape a show on one TV, tape a show on the other TV (or use the dual tuner as a pic-in pic and not hook it to a second TV) and watch a taped show all at the same time. Also both TV's hooked to a single dual-tuner can watch live TV and can pause and rewind live TV. It sounds like the Fios only has this capability on one TV.
