Is there a problem with the "Attack" button in the hangar? You would instinctively think that selecting rockets on a P-51D would put you in attack mode, but alas...

Can this be changed?

Probably a stupid question anyway but....

Why do we have "Attack" & "Fighter" buttons anyway?. If you kill an enemy or damage a structure doesn't it do the same amount as damage to thier war effort regardless of which configuration your plane is in? After you have dispensed all your Rockets, Bombs etc why score any air to air fights differently because of whatever button you pressed in the hanger sometime earlier? Personally I never use it (1D 2*1000 + 8 Rockets - Fighter)

Am I missing something

It is a question of success and time, as I see it. If you intend to do a fighter sortie you would carry rockets to vultch with. If you intend to hit an object you won't be killing aircraft. If your intentions are borne out in success you should score higher (perks or whatever). Further, I feel that succeeding with an aircraft that does poorly in ground attack, during a ground attack, should then result in more perks. If you spend little time doing 'X' and being successful you get good points here, but why penalize the cautious? If, we are mission oriented, then success is everything and timeliness a non-factor.

Remove time from the equation!

Would be nice if it just "remembered" the last settings used on an A/C. 90% of my sorties are A/G, yet, since I'm mostly always using the same loadout/plane, I end up not going to the Hangar, and I have 90% of my flights logged as "fighter".

Call me lazy if you want

It does keep that setting, until you log off or go to the hanger.  If you select a 190A8 w/ 30mm and a bomb, click attack, then a spawn button, when you die at yer target and click the spawn button (w/o going to hanger) you are in your 190A8 w/ 30mm and a bomb on an attack sortie.
