MIRACLE AT MIDWAY! FRAME 1 SCORE
« on: November 10, 2008, 10:35:03 PM »
Tight frame made even tighter due to 2 USN penalties.  The USN received a penalty for violation of the TBM/SBD air-to-air rule and also at least (1) TBD carried rockets and bombs, which were used to damage an IJN target, in violation of the "torp only TBM" rule.  Rule violations are scored at 2% point per occurrance.

USN A2A:  27.6
IJN A2A:  25.6

USN Obj:  26.5
IJN Obj:  22.3

Subtotals

USN:  54.1
IJN:  47.9

Grand Totals: (including USN penalties)

USN:  50.1
IJN:  47.9

From a statistical standpoint, neither side achieved decisive results against shipboard targets, but the high percentage loss of A6M (64%) swung the total score in the USN favor.

I have to say that during the event, the reports I saw and heard made it sound as even as the final score was.

Thanks for posting the score so quick.   :salute

Ty for the score update stoney.  :aok
I would imagine that the high a6m loss was due to the 'no where to land'  problem we faced.  Was fun fso for us and we enjoyed it. Thanks to tyhe cic's and cm team... TUK151 :salute

Those weren't crashed or ditched A6Ms in the score.  Those were either kills, or maneuver kills only.

I wonder Sir, if the fact that the IJN did not meet their limits, in regards to aircraft, was taken into account.

The IJN was allowed a maximum of 100 A6M2's and actually used 117.
The IJN was allowed a minimum of 120 D3A's and did not meet that minimum by flying 118.

This information was gathered from the logs and is very relevant to the event score. The fact that the USN was penalized for violations demands that the IJN violations also be addressed.

Frame 1 was a fun frame without a doubt, but if one side was in the wrong and is penalized, the other side should enjoy the same consideration.

Hi SIM  :)

It is late but I did count the A6Ms in the logs at ahevents.org and I have different numbers.

99 Launched

17 Rolling Thunder
16 13MPG
14 353rd Fighter Group
08 Army of Muppets
13 Hellcat Fighters
18 JG2 Richtoffen
13 The Unforgiven (they also had 6 B5Ns) sqd total 19

16 reups within the first few minutes. Reasons probably like wrong loadout, not enough fuel so on and so on.

115 total sorties (close to 117)

By these late night figures the A6Ms where not over their limit.

I can look into the D3A1s tomorrow. Was more concerned with to many fighters and too tired to go count planes again

Falcon has already addressed the first issue of too many A6Ms.  If you get rid of the multiple takeoffs at the beginning of the frame, they met their maximum.

Second, with respect to meeting the minimums:  The Axis Orders had sufficient numbers of squadrons assigned to meet the minimum number of D3A.  You may not have been around during the creation of the "Kurt" rule, but it basically states that a CIC and side shall not be penalized as long as the CIC planned to meet the minimum/maximum requirements.  As several squadrons that were assigned to fly the D3A had a fraction of their commitment level actually show up, the Axis shall not be penalized for their lack of participation.  We'll hold those penalties for the squadrons themselves.

Further, the same condition would apply to the Allied side in this case, as they did not meet the minimum number of SBD, once you take away all of the multiple takeoffs.  I did not apply a penalty to the Allies for this, so my scoring is consistent.

Isn't there already a built in penalty for a squad not meeting its expected numbers?  These sorts of things should be enforced, however, because otherwise there will be consistent low attendance when squads have to fly vals and kates.

You must have gotten fuzzy at the bottom of the page :D
Dantoo gave us 12 and that's what we took. Logs show 12 and 7. We juggled a lot as better sticks showed up, but in the end we got it right on the first try( and was vary superised).
