Video flight replay
« on: March 20, 2010, 01:55:19 PM »
Ok this may sound weird but often when I'm watching a video of a fight and I'm trying to learn something, I'd like to be able to jump into my plane and control it to see if a different acm would have worked better. So the wish is the ability, from a video, retake control of your plane and fly it against the save motions of the opponent that you were fighting against in the video. This shouldn't be to hard as the video is just a set of saved input responses from both opponents with timestamps correct?

Yeah, that's right, you just got your rear handed to you by a fuggly puppet!

Your enemy's motions are directly based upon your own. You can't change your own moves and expect his to remain the same.

Just by trying a different move in one spot you totally change where the bad guy would end up, how hard he would pull, how he would be able to get a guns lock on you faster, etc.

From the technical side of things, the film viewer has no flight model in it. It's purely graphics game itself. You don't have anything to "jump into" -- as opposed to some other games where film viewers are integrated into playback, but these all (to my knowledge) only do that with AI partners. None do it with human players on the other side.

true, but 2 cases come to mind where it might be useful...
1) when your trying to train someone where your like... if they do this... then counter like this.... in which they can practice against
2) Where your like... If I did this... given this situation, would that have put me in a better position. I understand that in a non-caned env, both planes are reacting to each others moves but its better than nothing.

An integrated film viewer would be awesome, then you wouldn't need to exit the game to view your films. Also, if there was a way to 'trade' films from within the in-game film viewer thing...

I wouldn't say that curry, its a good way to sharpen up your shooting eye before heading into the wars.
Especially if you fly the same guns package your planning to fly in the main.

Granted for ACM they are not as good as a live human on the other end.

You could do this in the AW films. Sure the enemy planes didn't react to the new moves, but it did give you a chance to see where you would have ended up doing a variation on the move that got you killed/in trouble.  It also use to make me feel better to kill the SOB that had gotten me in the film   :P
