I'm posting this to help others from going down the same miserable, frustrating road I went down.
Back in April of this year, my wonderful iMac24 started locking up and crashing during game play. I knew the issue stemmed from my video card/driver etc... After ruling out many, many things and exchanging several emails and a conversation with Skuzzy, I believed I had to spend about 500 bucks getting my video chip replaced.
I talked to a certified apple repair shop and they suggested that a reason my video chip may have went bad in the first place was due to heat damage. The intensive graphics required for AH2 resulted in heat damage to the system.
Well, as a last ditch effort to save myself some money and get back into the virtual skies, I scoured the net for software which lets me control the fan in the system. I found software named "smcfancontrol". After installing that on the Mac side and configuring it, you have to do a restart (not shutdown) into Windows. You'll actually hear the fan spin up into faster revolutions.
Since this was done, I have played for hours on end during the last 2 weeks without a single problem.
So, if you are having system lock ups on a an iMac, this may save your day.
