Shopping advice needed

I'm thinking about buying this book for Xmas:

Mike Spick Luftwaffe Fighter Aces: The Jagdflieger and their Combat Techniques

What about it? Is it a good reading?

 I have that book.I havnt read it in some time.I just paged through it.Its a decent enough book.It depends on what your looking for.If you want a good book with stories about Luftwaffe fighter pilots my favorite is "Horrido fighter aces of the Luftwaffe".It covers day and night fighters.Its loaded with personal stories,information on equipment and the overall situation they fought in.If I recall correctly the book was originaly printed some time ago and the authors got a lot of whats in the book directly word of mouth from the former Luftwaffe pilots.

I just made myself read that osprey "109 aces of the eastern front" my god I dont think a book can get any more boreing.They should just list pilots,theyre kills and when they got theyre swords with diamonds.It would save some time and trees......hehehe ok sorry had to rant

I have the Mike Spick book and I think it's a good read, with some small mistakes, at least in the Spanish edition. I don't have the book of Constable, but some old books about the Luftwaffe are full of myths and errors, by example M. Caidin books.

"Horrido" is in my wishlist, I think it'll come in the next shipment Right now I was more attracted to Spick's book because I'm reading Shaw and the former should be more oriented on Jagdfliger tactics than stories, so that's what I'm looking for.

Good book Lupo, I picked it uop back in high school and still re-read it occasionally. Great diagrams to illustrate stuff for people who aren't familiar with the tactics, and also great for showing how it was usually taught at the operational level (as opposed to in training).

Might be bit redundant for a veteran simmer, but makes a good refresher or gift for someone just getting into it.

I bought his this one, and the other one he wrote about Allied Aces, used and on the cheap. I recommend doing the same. Both are worth reading, neither is an ACM manual at all though.

Thanks, gents! I'm not looking for an ACM manual, I'm curious about historical tactics used during WWII. Seems Spick's books are what I'm looking for.

Gianlupo, there was a document titled The Long Reach. This was a survey of ~2 dozen fighter pilots during WW2 focusing on the tactics they used.

I know Osprey has a so so rep but their Aces book #31 has excerpts from the document.

The Luthwafffe Fighters Battle over britian

 is a good read, its not a story or anything, but just accounts from different LW pilots of their experiences dealing with the british in the BOB,  usually when you hear or read about the BOB, you hear predominantly the British side of the story, so getting the German perspective of it was (for me) really interesting.
