I have what is probably the best tank sim right now, Steel Beasts.
Now, the tank treads in Aces High don't move. That is fairly obvious to everyone. However, it is possible to hide that better.
Paint the wheels to not have spokes (make them dirty, aka full of mud), and paint the treads an opaque, solid brown as well, AKA untextured. This is how the tank treads in Steel Beasts look, and you would never know they're not animated.
If you do this, maybe add some dirt splatter on the tanks just for looks?
