BUMPAGE...

I just checked my rank for the December tour... I was ranked below 50.

It just goes to show... rank does not mean jack squat!   :)   Ultimately, it means one takes the least amount of risk to get shot down and only attacks when the situation is in your favor.  I've watched some of the other "better" ranked guys and they simply follow that code: they dont up at a hot field; they dont risk an attack vs a FLAK 1v1; they dont do bombing raids when there is a better than average chance of being intercepted; and they dont attempt to engage enemy fighters when they have less E, a lower alt, etc.

On the one hand, I agree there a lot of gaming is going on.

OTOH, do you honestly think just anyone could put up stats like say, Shawk or Steve do on their fighter score? (Without vulching a second account)?
ill be the first (if someone hasnt already) say that SHawk does not. look at the new stats page, his kills on people are as clean as can be.

back to OP, Loon, i agree about your thoughts. sure, to some degree we are all "score hores" i check my rank when i go on to see if i went up or down, but dont otherwise care, i check my k/d, k/s and hit points too, thats about as much as ill do though.

... It means you can cherry pick fighters in a furball with careful glee; it means you can camp an enemy spawn point at point blank range in your Firefly or up a Wirblewind and pluck out an aircraft or two as they dive at you on the Veh base; it means that you can point the 5in ack fun-guns towards the enemy bombers and pull the trigger;

for anyone who does not already know, nobody gets any "score" or "rank"  for manning a gun -- 8", 5" or 40mm. our only glory is name in lights or pm's and 200 complaints.  :aok

Rank 50 for a thread bump?  :huh Maybe if you would have said top 20 it would have been more warranted.  Try harder next camp or spend some time in the TA with Texture.   :devil

That is %95 of someone's rank.  The other %5 is actually reflecting of someone's talent.  If this average Joe like me can get a rank within the 90 "best" in the over all category, then anyone can do it.  Sure, some guys are good and I wont hesitate to give them their due, but over all....

Ranks means nothing except it shows that one knows how to work the score/rank angle.  That is it.

THATS FUNNY i don't bomb strats and don't spawn camp and always in top 5 mid war and near top when i flew late war. and when we got paid for top rank was number 1 4 out of 5 months

Well for 1. Fireing 5" doesnt do anything for your rank 2. B-24's max layout of 4 2000lb bombs not 5000lb  :D

1.  True.

2.  By bad.  Typo.

btw:  I didnt bump this thread to show off MY rank, but rather to point out the fallacy of associating rank with skill to those who hawk over their score and claim their uber-ness (OMGWTF I just shot u downz!) after getting a few campin'-vulchin'-pickin' kills or milk runnin' points.
