HTC - Suggested additions to (upcoming) scoring.
« on: May 18, 2000, 11:04:00 AM »
 Finally, we are going to have a meaningfull scoring that will reward more realistic flying - by giving the "best" and limited availability aircraft to the worthy pilots (just like in RL).
 Those dangerous aircraft will not cause many problems for the rest of us since they will be flown rarely and very carefully, with intent to RTB.
 Of course there will be some realism issues not addressed and some unrealism introduced by the new scoring. I have two suggestions that should be easy to implement (IMHO, as a programmer) that will address some of those issues and also greatly add to the community spirit.

1. Allow a player to transfer score points to another player (including the enemy).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 In RL the worthiness of a pilot was not automatically determined by his kill count, but subjectively by his superiors - there were lots of things more important then a kill count. We do not have superiors in MA, but other players should be able to do that.
 When would you want to transfer some credit to another guy? Glad you asked.
 - for a guy who flew cover rather then join a furball/gangbang to score a kill;
 - for a guy who organised, cooperated and commanded a mission and had no time to score, also his wingman;
 - for a guy who flew escort on a bomber mission and did not get a chance to score a kill or stayed with a bomber rather than abandon him to pursue the wounded enemy;
 - for a guy on an organised mission who did not have a chance to score (scouts) or was sent on a desperate mission - to detract enemy's attention, etc.
 - for your wingman who covered your bellybutton while you could concentrate on your kill;
 - for a guy who gave you that crucial 6 call;
 - for a guy who chose to help you in a tight spot (and possibly got his bellybutton shot off) when he could have stayed clear or run away;
 - for a guy who is chosen by several players (pooling their points) to fly that ride in the inrerests of a group on an organised mission;
 - to express your admiration of any player you want - friend or enemy;
2. Subtract some points when a countryman gets killed within certain range.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 - that would affect sleasy covards/scorepotatos loitering high and safely waiting for the sure kill while their countrymen get slaughtered;
 - that would also affect a guy who is designated to fly high cover or coordinate/command a mission, but he can be compensated by other guys;
 - that would also affect any friendly who is doing his job - but that is only realistic. In RL even if you came home safely but let your friends get slaughtered, your performance rating and reputation would not get much boost. You would have an incentive to give that 6 call or advice or even scare a bogey off somebody's 6 - otherwise his blood will be on your hands (off your score);

 There are many more reasons how that could improve the game and make it more realistic, prersonal and immersive. Most important, the cooperation will be promoted outside the orchestrated special events.
 Could not think of one that would hurt any. Care to comment?

Fine by me if you some how force people to fly intelligently (my smart aleck way of saying "no thank you"   )

I guess I am a score potato, after I refuse to help a countrymen, after I just spent 10 minutes grabbing precious E in my P-51. And then some countryman in his lone Spitfire dives into a cloud of red cons (usually at odds of 4 to 1 against him) on the deck, takes the fight slow and at tree top level.  And then expects me to dump all my E and come down and save him somehow (which I can't do in time to save him) to only set myself up to die to that cloud of bad guys.

If thats a score potato... hehe fine by me... just call me Easy & Sleazy

[And yes, this is a common and frequent "in arena" example of what happens]
