Thursday Night Mission AAR...
« on: December 04, 2008, 09:41:21 PM »
Post your AARs, pictures and, films in here. I'm working on the bombers AAR right now.

When the main bomber stream rolled we had six sets of B-26Bs consisting of myself, VWExx1, Republic, Jaeger1, Bear, and warmongo. We rolled NE out of A53 and started on a heading of East while we formed up with a MP of 40". Once we hit the 11.17 sector we headed south still climbing up at 40" on the manifold. After leveling out at 15,000 ft. we set the manifold back to 34" so we could stay in formation. As we approached the sector lines of 10.16/11.16 we took a heading SW and got lined up on our target. About ten miles before we hit the front lines we opened our doors and set target altitude on our scopes. Once we flew over the front lines all hell broke loose when we encountered a formation of eight enemy fighters (six 190A5s and two C.205s). While our escorts were working on them some of us took the time to calibrate our bomb sights. A few minutes later the enemy fighters took a liking to us and started attacking from high and low six postions. Our tail end charlie didn't last to long and was last seen bailing out somewhere over hostile territory with his burning plane not far behind him. Attack after attack of enemy fighters were beat back until we spotted our target. The city in the middle of 8.14 sector. Since some of the bombers didn't know how the AvA bomb sight worked I calibrated and told them when I dropped. Once we did we waited to watch how our run went before turning back for home. We all dropped on the south side of the city since it had the most targets and we completely leveled it. Once we dropped another of our bomber formations fell to enemy hands. We started making our egress and were attacked again by a group of fighters that quickly took jaegers drones. He winged up with the tree formations we had left and we started heading home while we dropped alt. Once at our base there was a 190 that was going after our last escort. While some of us were landing there was a 109 that dropped in to vulch but was to late. Out of the seventeen bombers (one of us lost a drone on the runway) ten of our bombers made it home alive.

Arrived near target area in P-38 as top cap. Engaged many 190's trying to clear a P-47 then got one shot PK by Priz.

 :salute

PS  Would be nice to have the Axis at the alt disadvantage in these things 50% of the time.  Unfortunately, if that were the case, the Axis wouldn't bother showing up.

The alt cap for the fighters in the mission was set at 30K the axis came in at around 26. We didn't get any squads to show up except JG54 and 353rd so the allies were at a disadvantage with the numbers that's why all the B26s were JG54. Ill set next weeks mission up for Wednesday to see if we get more numbers and one or two allied squads from the MA.

I just want to say this was a little Gem of a scenario. It took maybe a little over an hour from start to finish. There was little waiting around.Take off find the bad guys and have at it.The event had that historic feel about it that some of us look for.I had a good time and will look for future events of this type. Thanks to Larry for putting it together.

I had a lot of fun with the mission.  I've been reading The Wild Blue and I'd really like to fly in another authentic bombing mission.  I think with proper advertising we might could get some of the bomber squads in here.  Also, as of when I logged, there was really no drama at all, all in all a great night!

Yeah there  was far too few Allied,  So I logged out.  I didn't want to make it unpleasant for the few Allies that did  show up.  I guess next time I'll follow  Jg-54's lead and switch teams.  Thank you for your effort Larry!!  You really did a fine job.  To those who attended, Thank you for your interest!

Booooooooooooooooooooo Helm. Now what would happen if everyone did that? :furious heheheh I was wondering what happen to ya.Either side would have been interesting to me.I didnt see anything being said about the sides being lopsided so I stayed put on the Axis team.I have never had the chance to fly the 205 in a historic enviorment before so that was a lot of fun for me.

Heyyyy... Call me silly, but from my seat the advantage was to the Axis, who engaged above both the CAP and the Bombers...

Was that the point you asked about Capt?

By the way;  :salute Dazz!  Good kill with that PK.  My 38 was mostly defensive with your schwarm chasing it about the skies.  I tagged two that were in a climbing chase of Asa, but no telling damage...  then Boom  hello tower.
