Ban programmable Joysticks from AH
« on: September 04, 2001, 05:04:00 AM »
Well they are definately not realistic and they make life much more convienient than how the real WWII pilots had it.  And the really good ones give an unfair advantage to those who have them beacuse they never have to look away fromt he screen to fiddle with the keyboard or mouse during a dogfight.

OK I'm kidding but my point is that you can get too carried away asking for realisim in this game.  I'm all for more realisim but I'm also all for keeping it a game  :)

Well, you still need switches for views, for flaps, for starting engines, for RPM, For Manifold pressure, for opening bomb doors, for shooting guns/cannons, dropping bombs, gear and for roll, yaw, and pitch.

Not sure which programable features you do not want in order for realism. Maybe like aircraft icons, zoom, f5 exterior views?   Have you a list?   :)

I have no issues with the current way the game is played when it comes to the controlls and switches.  I was just making an observation about how funny it is that people complain about the lack of realism on things like icons, views, etc. but these same people probably have no issues with using a sate of the art programmable joystick to simplify the access and use of the controls in this game.  Whereas in real life a WWII pilot did not have this luxury.

Just an observation  :D

If I had a real P-51 cockpit sitting in my living room, forcing me to use the real controls, believe me, I would  :).

My X-36 is a little cheaper, though.

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".
