Hmmmmmm....... 42" is BIG???????  I find 42" too big for up close like a desktop, but too small for a normal seating position 8' or over.  My 60" is great from my Lazyboy 8' away and the 50" was just ok at the same position.  Just my opinion based on actual experience as I still have 42", 50" and 60" displays.

LOL, I wonder how it would be with TIR, when I upped to a 24" for a short while it actually gave me a little vertigo.

I was using a 24in since last January.. Massive improvement
over the old CRT... Loved it!!! Don't wanna remember the old 17CRT..
Then a few months ago, my PC went a little soft on me.. So
I popped for a new Dell, tweaked just for gaming AH II..
2xSLI 9800 vid cards, blah blah... Wow, awesome on the 24in..
All the while, I wanted a BIG monitor... Talked about it with some
ppl on this forum, almost bought one... But decided to wait a bit...

Glad I did!!!  I saved my nickels, saved my dimes, bought me a 409, LOL!!!
Actually, a 47in LG Scarlet, 120hz, 4ms... Holy Smokes!!! It's Jawdropping!!
It upgrades the 1050 res, to 1080p automatically.. Motion is perfectly smooth,
no blurring, ghosting, or stuttering... The detail is INCREDIBLE!!! Zoomed up,
the gunsight is easily 2 1/2 feet wide... Just WOW!!!

For a couple of days, I was flying into my targets because the detail was
mesmerizing... Looking down the tailguns of a lifesize lancaster, watching
my shell impacts, plexiglass shattering, will pull you right in, LOL!!!

I used an DVI-D to HDMI cable to make the connection, and the PC and TV jived
perfectly.. Recognized each other instantly, like a match made in heaven...

Never understood how ppl could be so, "into" the game, that they would build
a simpit... Now I understand why!!! Think I'm headed in that direction too...
OMG, I'm turning into a game geek, LOL!!!

If you can afford it, go BIG!!!  It's super cool!!!

Been thinking about going HD, This looks like a pretty nice setup. In a year or sooner the price should be lower. Have to suffer with my 1280x1024 until it does. Before spending a lot on a TV I would look at a projector.

If I was going to have a room dedicated in my house as a theater, I would go projector all the way.  But for every day TV watching, I'd stick with a TV.  Bulb life can vary in projectors (from 2000-5000 hours).  Plus projectors do not possess a very good color and brightness/contrast as compared to LCD and Plasmas.  And unless you're in a cave, in daylight projectors are going to suck as well.

I see what your are saying, but I will tell you that I am pretty happy in my cave in the basement.  :salute  I have used about half the bulb life in my current model and its been over a year. I have it set on 3000 hours. My only complaint is its not HD. The screen size is variable and well over 70 inches. I don't think I would ever go back.
