Some planes are just better than others

Howdo Folks,

I rarely have the luxury of posting, but I feel this is worthy of acknowlegement.

First----- I think we all agree that for the most part having 20mm'ers slam into your foe is more benefitting than other ordance..less 37mm.

LAST----- Some planes have cannons others do not.

So i wonder why everyone is so confused as to why they see more nikis and C-hOGS.

Easy, most people *have* to have cannons with plenty of ammo cause their gunnery is terrible.
There are plenty of cannon birds in the game, its just that the nik and chog have *so* much whoopeeed ammo it affords those with bad gunnery a good number of spray-and-pray 1-ping-kill dweeb shots.

<S> goes to those that can down 2 or 3 or more planes with 60 rnds of 30 mm in the 109 - now thats gunnery

Those some other planes have somewhat good flight characteristics too..
I just heard that F4u-1c is not supposed to have WEP

Spatula, I don't like 30mm, but I can down 5-6 with 20mm

Not sure about being terrible gunnery, having cannons certainly helps since landing only about 1/5th the rounds has roughly the same effect.  With Hispanos that becomes even less.  The cannons give you quick kills and don't make you have to maintain position for the tracking shot as much.  Even guys like Hangtime in a P51 has to stay with someone for a second or two in order to pump enough .50's into you to take you down (on average).  With 20mm all anyone has to do is have you cross their nose.

Almost anyone can be a killer with cannons, it's much tougher without.  You should try it with only .303's

Decreasing the toughness of the planes would naturally alleviate the problem some. (I dare not propose that the effectiveness of the weapons ought to be increased   )

Also, the toughness of the planes can be debated more freely perhaps than the effectiveness of the guns. When guns are discussed people usually throw in the equation for kinetic energy and state that that is all there is to it (even though it _obviously_ is not).

However Funked has already mentioned that in his opinion the planes are already too weak (or the guns too efficient).

Thus, I can't really think of a way to make cannon planes less interesting (and still attempting to keep it all realistic) to use unless gun jams and such are implemented.

Sage, Hispanos will take off a wing with 1 or two hits. Takes more with the German 20mm of course.

30mm will shred a plane with 1 or 2 rounds as well.

Fw190As have 4 cannons, too, plus 2 MGs.

And I dont see many 190s up there lately...

It's not the cannons, LaVa (well, in Chog, somehow, that too), its the FM.

StSanta, I know what the hispanos can do and thus I nowadays fly Spits and cHogs (and the occasional La5).

What I meant was that if the planes were even more fragile, then any cannon would tear off a part with one hit. And .50 with one or two. So then everyone would sort of like have hispanos but without the superior trajectory (the .50 would have it, of course). Hmm. Maybe it isn't such a good idea after all   .

f4u1c is the supreme kill racker upper.

I've flown the thing only two nights this tour and managed 7kill+ sorties with ease and ended up with like 50 kills in it after those two isolated occasions. theoretically the f4u1c has enough ammo to kill over 20 fighters a sortie if you use only 46 rounds, dont miss any shots and fire in close. even if firing 100 rounds per fighter the f4u can down 9 fighters easily

its the ultimate scorepotato (winqck) dweeb ride of choice.

I hated that plane
Fester was my in game name until September 2013
