Rudderproblems
« on: September 11, 2001, 12:12:00 AM »
Hello fellow pilots!

I have a question about the rudder control.
When i press rudder a bit, i expect a bit sliding.
But the nose doesn't keep in that direction.

Example. There is a plane (200 yards) on my 1 o clock. So i press rudder right a bit.
What happens now, the plane comes at my 12 and it goes back to 1 then it goes back to 12 then back to 1.
It doesn't stay in this position.
It only stays in position when i apply full rudder.

A rudder, once pressed, should keep the nose in that particular direction until release.

But it simply doesn't happen.

So rudder is useless to me now.

O yeah i use a microsoft force feedback or a precision pro.

Rudder can only help me with evasive manouvers, but not with offensive combat.

This is very annoying and i doubt it will be better when using rudder pedals.

I hope you understand what i am talking about.
I have tried it all, damping, deadzone.

I fly soaringplanes in real life and that is my comparison.

Greetings,

JG5FaBi.

Hum.. I'm not sure exactly what you mean here.  If a target is slightly off my nose, I'll swing the rudder over to take a shot at him, and it seems to work just fine.  I, personally, can also just hold in half rudder and my nose will stay pointed off to one side until I release it.  Sounds like something is wrong with your Joystick setup..

hes talking about making the rudder not center on itself when you stop applying rudder control.

Fastbikel: What you seem to be asking for is RUDDER TRIM. AH has RUDDER TRIM and RUDDER CONTROL. Control assumes the pilot is applying constant input to the rudder (aka, in real life you would have to KEEP the rudder pedal pressed to get the desired effect) and the TRIM makes the rudder itself "lock" to the setting you want and stays there until you tell it otherwise.

Why you would want to trim the rudder to keep pulling to one side when in the middle of a fight is beyond my comprehension, but if thats what you want, re-map your joystick so that the z-axis of the stick does rudder trim, not rudder control.

Well,... i keep the rudder in that direction but it returns to its original position, then kicks in again, then back.
This goes on and on.

The result of this is that i am spraying allover the place.
While in fact, i can aim  :)
I've proven my valor plenty of times. LOL

I'll take another look at the rudder settings, but i fear the worst.
Anyway, i still like the game and i plan to buy some pedals one day.

Thanks.

Bikkel are u using rudder pedals or Z-Axis or keyboard command.

I had a rudder problem wiht my pedals when starting AH.

When i applied about 40% pedal deflection the ingame rudder would violently jump to 100%, that lead to a phenomenon similar to urse.
When i tried to aim, and was not appling full rudder, the plane would violently shake left or right.

After increasing dead band a bit the problen disappeared.

Maybe the sensitive stick you're using is the root of this problem, there isn't much throw in the Sidewinder rudder axis. I use the Saitek X-36, and I still wobble a bit on takeoff. I have no problems doing sideslips whatsoever, though, and I also noticed that they now actually slow you down  :). Very helpful on final.
