How much money would it take to make you not mad at someone?
« on: December 14, 2008, 03:57:13 PM »
The original members of ABBA broke up years ago with a lot of bad feelings amongst themselves. In 2000 they were reportedly offered 1 Billion dollars to reunite and do approximately 100 shows world wide........they turned it down. :O

Now i've been pretty mad at someone but that kind of cash i'd fake liking them. :D

1 billion dollars divided how many ways?

For that kind of money who cares if I like you or not. I can work with you a 100 times, maybe even 200 times.

Abba was a bigger corporation than Volvo, earning more money in a single year that the car manufacturer at one time in the 70s, maybe they don't need more $$.

You don't necessarily to be mad at someone to turn such an offer down. Maybe some/all of them think money isn't everything, espeacially when you already have enough of it for a comfortable life. You may earn a lot of additional  money you can barely spend, but you may lose a lot. There are way too many senseless "reunions" of bands that were good back in their days and then did the reunion thing just for the money... and it showed.  Frida & Agnetha do live some pretty quiet life today, I could imagine they just don't wan't that old high-profile life in the limelight again?

Yeah I'd agree with Lusche, the members probably figured that they already had enough money to support the life style they want, and more money just wasn't enough of an incentive to go back out on the road and tour.

They probably make a pretty penny off of royalties.  Especially after that Mamma Mia chick flick.

Agnetha Fältskog-58

Björn Kristian Ulvaeus-63

Benny Andersson-61

Frida Lyngstad-63

Why on Earth would someone want to tour and play 200 shows, especially at their ages?  Touring, even just 200 shows is already a pain in the arse.  The revenues from just 5 years of super stardom(1976-1981) will pay handsome dividends for the rest of their natural lives.  Money is obviously not a concern for them.  And they want ABBA to remain the image they had as they were young.  Smart guys.  I wish Jane's Addiction and The Smashing Pumpkins did the same thing and left their legacies as they were instead of reuniting, making a mediocre album, touring, and then calling it quits again.  Iron Maiden is the only band I know that has aged better than any other set of musicians I am aware of.

Not only from that, but I'm sure they made quite a bit of money from the play "Mama Mia", and the movie adaptation of it.

Look into the "Bjorn again" groups that are touring doing ABBA songs. These groups were started and are run by members of the group. Currently there are i believe 5 such authorized groups, and the oldest one of them has been touring fro 15 years.......longer than the original group was together.

As to them not getting together again i kind of see both sides on it. Yeah they probably got enough cash to live quite well and never have to do anything again. As a fan and admirer, i'd pay to see one last show as they were great live performers. If they don't want the cash then donate it to the charity of there choice.

Frida actually had a song/album out that i really enjoyed.

Remember this is a bunch of WOMEN we're talking about here LOL

Though I too dont particularly care for them.
ABBA had one song with really great lyrics
Funny thing is I really didnt care for the band so much that I never paid any attention to the words to the song until a few years ago.

Fernando

Can you hear the drums Fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
In the firelight Fernando
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar

They were closer now Fernando
Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally
I was so afraid Fernando
We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die
And Im not ashamed to say
The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
Theres no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando

Now were old and grey Fernando
And since many years I havent seen a rifle in your hand
Can you hear the drums Fernando?
Do you still recall the frightful night we crossed the rio grande?
I can see it in your eyes
How proud you were to fight for freedom in this land

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
Theres no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
Theres no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
Yes, if I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando...
