New Damage models...
« on: June 14, 2001, 06:43:00 AM »
I know few people have already said this one, but I really think it could improve the gameplay and bring in some new interesting factors.

I seem to notice all the 'damage modelling' we have is either 'fine' or 'busted'. The various areas of damage are quite well depicted, but suffering the loss of a single aileron control cable within the wing can't be same as ailerons itself just falling off.. can it?

Or, punctured and weakened wings might affect the plane(like maybe do a hard high-speed turn and it snaps easier..), but damaged and weakened doesn't necessarily seem to have to be same with 'wing tip gone' or 'half wing'.

It's all either 'total destruction'(falling off) or 'no damage at all' it seems. The varying impact of damage seems to be ignored. What if HTC were to set more diverse effects of damage?

And by the way.. some teensey bit of modifications might make the gameplay a lot more fun too.. like small chunks of 'dusty' metal falling of from a plane that's been hit, or maybe the gauges on the cockpit panel can be busted(like broken glass?) if it suffers from a hit from the front.. or maybe bullet holes or cracks in the cockpit window..

I think these are quite minor issues and easy to get it inside the game, compared to some other 'serious restructuring' the other people demand of their planes..

Would we see this kind of change in the near future?

Kweassa,

If you ever played Aces over the Pacific or Aces over Europe they use to have bullet holes go across the instrument panel and broken canopy (this usually meant you were shot down though). Same for Janes WWII Fighter Legends.  I think this would be very realistic...

I agree, would like to see control cables snapped so instead of parts falling off - the stick goes sloppy and you loose control.

Or control surfaces getting stuck in a deflected angle.

Get rid of Ctrl-D.

If you can't see the damage - oh well, you'll just have to gauge by how the bird flies.
