Greetings all fellow AHers
I am NOT looking for sympathy... although if you've seen my gunnery you might offer some anyway!

My medical certificate for flying RW aircraft (or a motor vehicle of any kind for hat matter has has been revoked due to having 2 malignant tumors removed from my brain last week. It is/was(they are) the same kind of tumor(s) that Senator Kennedy was recently diagnosed with. Who would believe that I would have something in common with TED Kennedy  :) Politics aside. I wish him a full recovery and wouldn't wish this on my wost enemy even if he or she were a ROOK!!! :lol

I f any of you could remember me in your prayers. I could use any and all help of that nature...

I start CHEMO and radiation therapy next month. and the neurosurgery team that performed the procedures are confident that they got all the bad  stuff removed.

I have good and bad days but I am recovering and I am hopeful for the future

MAJ,

I can relate. At college graduation and before my commissioning I was hospitalized and told I was type 1 diabetic. I didn't even know what being diabetic was - I was athletic and going into the marines as a pilot, but with that diagnosis my career track for the last 23 years (10 of which were flying) was killed.

You'll get through it - just stay positive and as everyone else said, be obsessive about getting better. I returned to flying a year later after the diagnosis.

My mother has had two bouts of colon cancer in the past two years.  She's luckily doing well, but the CHEMO was the worst part.  It will kill your hunger and sap your energy.  She still got through it though stronger than anyone else she encountered at the hospital going through the same thing though.  Everyone always asked how she was doing it so well and she gave all the credit to taking alternative supliments/vitamins and stuff as suggested by her friends (I remeber vitamin D was a big one I think).  I highly recomend researching and trying some of that stuff, it really did make a difference even though the CHEMO will still make you feel under the weather.

Seeing as you mentioned politics a little, I'll try my luck in explaining the odd-ball opinion/experiene to come out of my mothers whole ordeal too.  My parents are quite conservative in their older age (but they grew up in the 60s and 70s, were total hippies like everyone else at the time).  My mom was trying a lot of medications from her doctor and stuff during her CHEMO to help with her hunger and apetite (a dozen or so different types, each one didnt work or did something bad to her), she just didnt have the desire to eat and when she did it was a piss-poor amount.  Me being a lot younger and more liberal currently in my youth than they are in their age, suggested just a small amount of medical pot/dope before she ate to try and fix her hunger (she was a hippie, and she was desperate to be hungry again and eat a satisfying amount of food).  And so after trying over a dozen different things from her doctors, this was the only thing that worked (she was hungry again and almost instantly, and she ate a good quantity of food given her circumstances every time).  My parents before this point thought all medical dope was just a legal loop/gimic for stoners and hippies, and they still think that's mostly true but now also believe it's legitimacy in true medical needs of some people who say thet need it to help them.

I'm not trying to intrude upon your opinions or beliefs about this matter, I try to be very respectful about such things... but my mother went through CHEMO, and it was so hard for her and on her to go through that by the end of it all it made an impact on one of her normaly stuborn political views and introduced a belief in alternative vitamins and suppliments instead of solely relying on the latest in pharmasutical wonders (same with my father's views on the same things too).

Best of luck and hope you get well soon.

Thanks for all of the good wishes. The Aces High community is (IMHO) THE best and most caring/compassionate toward fellow AH addicts when the chips are down<S>.
I would also like to apologize for any unkind words  that I might have spewed toward certain players in the heat of a disagreement (vanscrew, cmustard tuk151 to name a few) Gentlemen, please accept my most sincere apologies.

PROGRESS REPORT:

I feel good considering... I can walk/talk/laugh etc. and things are pretty normal as far as the basics go. The weird thing is that my hand/eye coordination is shot. it is like the frame rate in my brain is stuck at 6 sometimes and normal at others, so being effective as an AH pilot again is going to be an uphill battle and is going to entail relearning many of the basics. My Docs thinks that Aces High might prove therapeutic an could possibly help me to regain some of my degraded hand/eye skills over time. My wife "loved" THAT when I told her :lol
I start Chemo/Radiation therapy next week, and though I am aware of the battle upcoming, I remain optimistic and hopeful. Also I have been reminded that my wife is the most incredible woman on the planet!

:salute TO ALL OF THE ACES HIGH COMMUNITY :salute
You are the best and I look forward to the day when I can make a return to the MA
