Again, no, they don't. I transferred iTunes purchased music from my iPod to my 'new' computer using absolutely nothing but my iPod and iTunes. Just because people can't spend 5 minutes doing a Google search to find out how to do it doesn't mean that the software prevents you from doing it.

Maybe he means music that has been ripped by other means.. I only used ipod inside the iphone anyway.

Come on dude, if he's using an iPod he's using iTunes.  The only way to manage an iPod is with iTunes.  And therein lies the problem with the iPod. With a "normal" MP3 player, you puter sees it as a USB jump drive and you can move files and folder on and off it without using an application.  The average iPod user is too lazy to manage their own music folder so they let iTunes do it for them.  Most don't even know the filepath to their music on their puter. When using an iPod, if your machine bites the dust, unless you have a USB hard drive, your music is gone FOREVER.  Chuck the iPod, get a USB hard drive and a "plays for sure" MP3 player, and chalk it all up as experience.

Plenty of apps to copy from ipod to hard drive.. Like others said..  If you have disk use enabled, you can even grab em thru windows from ipod_control/music. They'll be renamed to four letter alphabetic names tho.

motherland, music bought off itunes i believe is easy to transfer, of course I wouldn't know since I've never bought a song from them, my Itunes and ipod is all my cd's, I already had a huggggge collection of music before all this technology took off so I had no need to buy from them, anyway, music off cd's and other sources besides Itunes cannot be taken from your ipod onto your computer, I guess it's an anti-pirating measure, but as other have said before google itunes uploader or something like that and you should find a program.

i did try useing the uploaders i found on google, but i would rather not spend 30 dollars on a program that i will need once.

I have my ipod touch gen2 and im vrry very happy with it. Im uding it to be on the forums now. As to your prob, idk cause its never happened to me yet. Contact apple suport. Their very helpfull. I used them ro help figure out something with the wifi on it
