If you compare number of players and sales, I would think Oleg did something right....

Marketing. Add in the fact that an MMO sim is still an even smaller niche than whatever player base the consoles haven't stolen from the hardcore simmers yet.

Il-2 has visuals and some nice features I'd enjoy seeing in here like the more detailed damage model and engine management, (as has been suggested in Wishlist, make the engine management an Auto feature that newbies can switch off to their detriment like Stall Limiter) but otherwise flight modeling in AH is superior all around.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Eagle,

I'd love to see a PTO sim that covers the period before American involvement, as early as the first Japanese bomber raids in the mid/late-30s.

Actually, I'd love to see a PTO SIM. Practically everything that gets released is set in Europe, and the closest we've had was Pacific Fighters which was half-assed and incomplete unless you bought all the other Il-2 sims and expansions. Linking the games the way they did was a nice idea, but the execution was HORRIBLE because the later releases could barely stand alone (ever tried to play one of the default campaigns in PF? HORRIBLE mission design, including enemy planes scripted to air-spawn ON YOUR SIX). I won't even go into the genericness of the flight modelling and how every plane flew the same, the awful gunnery, ridiculous engine overheats, distracting and confusing audio radio communications, etc. etc. etc....

Oh i completely agree with everything!

I liked the graphics though, the carriers looked ridiculous!  Plus when you damaged the carrier, it actually showed where it was damaged, unlike AH where there arent bomb holes and such!  I personally liked the dogfighting but just because they have planes in there that arent in AH.

But i would like to see a pre-Pearl Harbor game, when they were fighting in China, maybe even against Russia!!  Europe is cool, but they need to start it during the Invasion of Poland!! Id like to see some FPS games do that as well!  Id like to see flyable Devastators and such as well....

The one thing i really disliked about Pacific Fighters was the CAS missions.  It would be cool to see tanks fighting, guys in foxholes firing at each other.  Have someone on the ground directing you with mortar smoke to the targets, things of this nature!  But maybe im asken for too much!!

Tell ya what, if i ever win the lottery, im gonna invest in making a game like this!! lol

The only part of PF/Il-2 I found interesting was the quick battle where you could set up different match-ups. F4Us vs A5Ms or Ki-43s. Oh, and Tiny Tims. We need Tiny Tims!

And yeah, the ground support ops were laughable in the campaign. NO direction whatsoever.

Carrier ops would have SERIOUSLY benefited from an LSO. In Il-2 there's almost no sense of speed or movement, even simulated, so trying to land without direction is INSANELY difficult. Even a little window-in-window view of the LSO standing on the fantail like you got in Aces of the Pacific to make up for the resolution (in fact, carrier ops in AotP, as old is it is, BLOWS AWAY any contemporary PTO sim I've played since).

Oh for sure Sax, AH could definitely use some improvement in the design of the carriers n stuff.  I really like the update they gave it!! But some of it needs to be changed!!

I think HiTech should make a map thats strickly for the PTOs, would be great to get some CV squads n Jap squads together to duel it out!! I realize AvA is close to it, but make it an all the time arena!!

When i come back Sax, in the next couple months, id definitely like to get our two squads together to do some CV ops!!

For sure....

Would be nice like you said to get Tiny Tims.  Would make Fleet defense a lot different!!

Id like to see the different varients of Hellcats n Corsairs, with more gun options!! Hellcat with 4 20mms would do just fine for me!!

I would like to see us being able to use the destroyers and cruisers on their own.  Maybe even get some battleships with 16 in guns!!

I have introduced several people to both sims that fly real warbirds on a regular basis.  They all came away with the same impressions.

#1 - they are games.
#2 - il2 has everything messed up except the eye candy.
#3 - ah2 has a lot messed up, but has a lot that "felt right"
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.
