I played it a bit when it came out in '98. Forget what it was like, it was certainly one of the most popular WWII sims for that time.

EAW was a pretty good game, and a worthwhile follow up to 1942.
However I still have to say that for overall atmosphere, immersion, and just sheer feature goodness Aces of the Pacific is still far and away the best WWII air-combat sim ever.
