It's all in the tempting  them out of the ack. :devil
The only way to tempt them out of the ack would be to disguise yourself as a town or a B5N.

Mabey something to discourage ack hugging instead would be more usefull.
Funny, but I have found very often the people who gripe about "ack hugging" are never interested in a fair fight, but rather want to be able to bounce low and slow cons with impunity.

We had puffy at airfields in the past.  It acted like puffy ack.  Missed the bombers and killed the weaving fighters.

What is the effective minimum range of these guns less than 50mm?  People seem to be wishing for manned guns with a range that would be a bit above the altitude fights usually occur over a field.

How about merely turning on friendly ack for everyone.  Fly through your own ack and take the same, albeit probably a bit less, chance of getting hit as the guy who is chasing you.  I'm not saying the friendly ack would be aiming ATyou.  But if it hit you, you would take damage.  Could be problematic taking off though.  Stay low and level until you get away from the field?

This is usually true with regular auto ack, but with puffy ack any engagement over 3k invariably ends with a PW or oil hit... or worse...
Yes, I know, get a new plane, but it's very frustrating having your sortie interrupted by something which doesn't fulfill it's intended purpose, shooting down high level bombers... which, of course, puffy ack almost never touches.

If puffy ack didn't pick off maneuvering fighters and blasted the crap out of bombers, like it's supposed to, I'd be all for having puffy ack at airfields. As it is, I hate flying against CV planes and over factories because of puffy.

Already happens. Auto ack kills friend and foe alike.

What Bronk said.  Do a search and you will find where people have complained that their aircraft was KOed on the runway by their own auto-ack.

<Edit>  Found one.

I know it happens, but it seems more an anomaly vs the amount of tracers flying around.

Yes, but the odds of that are 1 in a Million, if not more... (IMO it should happen a lot more often) I can't remember the last time I've been hit by my own ack... I don't even know if I even ever have.

In any case, that's irrelevant, because, again, that's regular field ack. I've never been hit by, nor have I ever heard of anyone else being hit by, friendly puffy ack.

Oh god please no... It's annoying enough flying within the dar range of a CV without getting shot at by flak, now we're gonna have it at every airbase?!

If we do get flak at airbases, completely recode how the flak works.  It can't just single out one plane, that's outrageous and didn't happen in real life...

Said it before

Studebaker Truck & Trailer available as a formation. Travels 2 inline

Trailer options
37mm                        Ammo = HE, AP (stored on bed)
85mm (as per T34)      Ammo = AA (non proxy),HE,AP,HVAP (stored on bed)
122mm (M30 howitzer) Ammo = HE (stored on bed)

Deployment time is at least 30 seconds. (Similar to rearm pad time)
When deployed the guns would be dug in with icon below as per aircraft
AA would be fused for range. (allthough this would have been timed, the read out could be given as range in yards)

Bed options
16 rail 132 Katyusha    1 set of spare Ammo Stored in trailer
Field supplies
Vehicle supplies
Troops

Here is an ez fix for ya.  Stay away from the base... they want to kill ya let em come to you.
Just to see them turn around and run back if they start to lose any type of advantage?

Funny, but I have found very often the people who gripe about "ack hugging" are never interested in a fair fight, but rather want to be able to bounce low and slow cons with impunity.

Just saying.
I wasnt complaining about "ack hugging" just saying why I dont think this idea should be implemented.

One or two at every air base would be nice.  It might repel of few of the kamakazi porkers before they can strike.

A single airplane should not be able to cause as much havoc at an airfield as it can, IMO.  Being able to hop into a 5in type AA gun and stop the porker would be a real nice option.

Oh.. and not the german 88mm.  There are better AA guns for what we're looking for.  :)
