saving hangar settings
« on: September 24, 2001, 01:28:00 PM »
a suggestion for the hangar settings (for lazy fat tulips like myself  :) ):

currently settings of ord and convergence are saved per plane model, as set on last flight.
usully I (and I suppose others as well) have their regular setting for jabo missions and A2A missions.
would it be possible to save "fighter" settings and "attackers" settings seperatly?
that way, selecting my p51 for instance through "fighter" tab would load it with 50% fuel and DT and my A2A convergence (as last used), and selecting through "attackers" tab would load it with the usual (last used) 2*2000+rockets + longer convergence.
(plus setting the right score category).
since most fighters can be used in both rolls and the settings for each mission is different, this could be convinient.

I really dislike the entire hangar interface.

Its clumsy and hard to select what you want. When setting convergence, Im always accidentally moving the mouse changing it to 250 while trying to deselect the convergence tab. Sometimes it's hard to tell if a bomb or DT is loaded etc...

Not to mention it's odd for new users.

The whole thing could be redone diffrent. I know there is supposed to be a theme of going from the tower to the hangar to the map room and such, but a 2D flat loadout board would be way better.

Janes Longbow had a pretty good setup.

It showed the AH-64 in similar view to how AH puts it, but you made all the actual selections on a clipboard. The graphic would update with the weapons settings as you went along.

Actual hangar is most disgusting to me. For some reason, at least one of every 20 flights I take off with some weird and undesired load. One of every 3 or 4 flights I enter the hangar to find anything but what was supposed to be selected by me. I vote for a pure 2D dialog.

Even uglier: the map room.
1 - no real-time strat information about enemy countries.
2 - 3D map unuseful even to select your desired base, not to mention when editing missions there ...

All I wanted is to save the configurations thus minimizing the clumsy interaction.
but since you guys brought it up (and i saw simmilar remarks on other threads)...
HTC, can something be done about this in a future version, please?

thanks,

It is a little strange. I remember jumping into a H2H dogfight with a Spit9. I kept dying, and couldn't figure out why. The only thing I noticed was the plane seemed oddly sluggish, but I figured that was from low e.

I went into the hangar to try my luck with another plane, and waddya know! There's the spit - with two 250 lb. bombs strapped to it's wings! D'oh!   :D

It needs to be easier to see what you're flying with.
