Randomly. Just a lil bit at a time.

You get to change the tradition whenever you want when you're the parent.  ;)

I created many a new traditions... daily afternoon naps for Mom... evening hour naps for Mom... mid-morning naps for Mom.  And the awesome thing was that nobody's allowed to argue  ;)

From a strictly historical or religious perspective, what does stringing blinking lights all over your house and yard have to do with Christmas?  I understand the tradition and all, but where did it come from?  Who was the first guy to who said "By golly, it's Christmas and I'm going to celebrate by making a spectacle of myself and wasting a bunch of electricity"?

I don't know who he was but I'm one of his fans.  I love Christmas lights, they're woderful and put most people in a good mood.  Just what you need to distract you from the endless amount of money you spent trying to please everyone.

I guess I could start my own rules now, but I took them down already anyway.  As far as naps, I am a huge proponent of naps, now if I can just send my wife to TxMom's school of nap training, I'll be ok.

Over the years our outside ornamentation has evolved into a relatively low key and simple display of 500 mini lights on the front hedge and bush from about Dec. 1 to Jan. 1.

Inside, mini lights on a couple plants sometimes stay up until February or even March to help us get through the winter darkness.

Good idea viper. One of my former bosses went headfirst into a bench off his roof. It wouldn't have been pretty if it has just been the ground he'd fallen on ~ but to go headfirst into a bench?  Ouch.  It's worth it to leave them up long enough to be safely taken down.   :aok

My dad used to put up so many lights in the house that you could read the paper without having to turn on anything but the X-mas lights. We used to joke that you couldn't sit on the toilet too long or you'd have lights hanging off you.

Of course, he also used to hang garland off the ceiling fans and build wreaths around the lampshades. The guy went a little nuts come the holidays.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Whatever their motives and resources, thumbs up for the elves who bring more light to the winter darkness.    :aok

And any time we need a little cheer boost all year long, can Google a couple of those masterpieces set to Wizards in Winter by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
