Did your Zune die?
« on: January 01, 2009, 09:41:17 AM »
My daughter's did...  Leave it to microsoft to screw something up.  They should have known that anything they design without Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys is obviously doomed to failure.

The one where you have to crack open the case and short the battery out that may or may not work?  No thanks.

If it doesn't work, then why not try it?  If you break it, you're out nothing anyways since you're writing it off.  I used to work at Batteries Plus in college and taking apart Ipods is a bigger pain in the butt than Zunes ever were.  Youtube has a lot of repair videos that would help you.  I used it all the time.

I'm not going to write it off.  I'm going to wait for microsoft to come up with a fix or they will be replacing it.

edit**  They're saying now that the glitch is with the internal clock not knowing what to do in a leap year...  It should resolve itself after midnight tonight.  I'll be holding my breath.

My oldest son has a 30GB Zune that he got last year for Christmas and it hung up once but that was due to a software issue that everyone had with an update. Once I found the work around it has worked great. I am listening to R.E.M. right now on it; I haven't had it hooked up to the software to charge it or reorder the play list since the 30th off December so I don't know if it will have another issue.

To Fix Your Zune Follow These Steps:

1. Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.

2. Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain-this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.

3. Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that’s 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).

4. Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.

Once the battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally. No other action is required-you can go back to using your Zune!

My oldest daughter had a Zune. It died completely while under warranty. Microsoft replaced it and less than 2 months later the new one died as well. We bought her an IPod to replace her Zune and she has had no problems with it.

The best things Microsoft ever made were their game controllers and in typical Microsoft fashion they discontinued them. Probably because they worked to well.

I havent had any problems with my iPod.  Only thing I don't like about it is you HAVE to update your iTunes to sync music on your iPod

Had an iPod and it died twice. Replaced it with a Zune. I love the software. It is so much easier to use and my son and I can easily share music.
