please help...
« on: January 09, 2009, 06:21:18 PM »
I don't know if this should go in tech support but whatever.

i have a saitek 290 pro joystick and at one point i loved it. but now when ever im flying a fighter it automaticly veers me to the right. I can't use autopilot because it disengages it by itself and when im dogifighting i have to struggle against it to keep it going level. it is very annoying  :cry and is ruining the game play  :( in fighters and it also does it in gunner and gv but strangley enough, doesn't do anything when im flying a bomber in autopilot  :huh

i have recalibrated this thing like 50 times but nothing...
is the joystick just getting old? I have had it for only 5 months  :cry

please help  :cry

Most likely the pots are getting worn out, take it to Wal-Mart and swap it out for a new one.
To each their pwn.

I was having a problem getting/keeping my Saitek AV8R calibrated last week too.  Last night after almost a week of not playing I opened up control panal/game controllers/properties and clicked restore defaults (or something like that).  That took care of it.

You might also be spiking if the pots are worn.  Open the preferences/controllers/map controllers/advanced tab in AH and if the scaled line is moving add some damping until it stops.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

If it is a worn pot, you may also have to add deadband to the offending axis(s).  Which should take care of the autopilot issue.

For you saitek guys. I use the X52.

Please see this thread
http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,222438.0.html

To stop this from happening you really need a seperate USB hub that is powered.

If the script doesnt work (see thread link above) you will have to set dead bands and adjust scaling.

If that doesnt work then the stick is fubared. Get a new one.

Cheap stick don't last long. It may be bad pots, or a plastic ring or arm broke inside. Calibrate it, then while watching the stick inputs on a graph, either in windows game controllers, or the one in the game... yank the stick around for a few minutes. Let it center then watch the graph. If its bouncing around you can try to take some of the bounce out by adjusting the dead band. If its too far gone, you'll need a new stick.

The script works for ALL saitek sticks not just the x52

If you dont have a powered usb hub you will get power spikes into the usp ports. A joystick especially the x52 pulls a lot of power and that leads to the spikes. That is what makes go whacked out.

However, I have replaced my x52 twice because the first time the rudder went bad. The second time the elevator axis went bad.

I buy the warrenty for $25 (at best buy). You get 2 years and can bring it back and get a replacement for free. Done it twice now. Full price the first time but each other time its only  $25... you buy the warrenty on replacement for $25. It goes bad you only pay $25 to get the next one.
