I will second what Ghost said... Threatfire is good. Combination of 3 apps may be best... traditional detection (McAfee, Norton etc.. with dats... misses some 0 day stuff) plus something like Threatfire for emerging or 0 day threats... then something else for Spyware. Kapersky is good. Safe computing habits and making sure your apps and OS is patched for known exploits will take you a long way though.

Why do we constantly have to tell you? Spybot is an anti-spyware utility designed to seek out and locate malware/spyware. AVG is an anti-virus designed to seek out and locate Trojans/Viruses.

The two programs are designed for two completely different tasks and shouldn't be rated based on the consensus that one finds something that the other didn't.

AVG is an anti-virus program, while SpyBot is anti-spy/malware.  So of course, AVG will find things SpyBot didn't (i.e. a virus).

Yep, after I got hit with the AntiVirus 2008 malware, Malwarebytes was the only one that was able to detect and remove it.

I use Superantispyware and Bit Defender.  They seem to work hard and do a good job.  Like most of you, have to dance around lots of pretender popups that suspiciously solve problems that came just before their coincidental appearance.
