AlacrityPC Questions
« on: January 10, 2009, 04:19:26 AM »
Downloaded the program, and for the most part its pretty easy to use.  I have a couple of questions about the Optimization selections.

1.  Does removing desktop wallpaper make any difference?
2.  Should I check Force Idle Tasks To Execute?
3.  In Misc. Options which selection should be made for monitored
programs?  Same selection, should I check Minimize when waiting
     for monitored programs to stop?

I run XPHome with service pack 3

I got my processes down to about 21 right now, so the program is working, just not sure about the stuff above.

Thanks

Fred

I also have XP SP3 and have used Alacrity for a while.  Most all the gains I've gotten from it are from shutting down processes and automating the startup sequence.  I have tried it with desktop wallpaper removed and Windows Shell/Desktop disabled and don't see any difference in performance on my machine.  Same can be said for the other optimizations.  I suppose there's a theoretical advantage to doing all this but I doubt you'd see any difference unless your machine is operating at the edge of it's capabilities.

I think the "remove wallpaper" thing was a left over from the old version of the program. In the old days when computer maxed out with less than a gig of ram and hard drives were under 40 meg and such, the wallpaper being a picture of size COULD make an impact to the system. With todays systems, wallpapers haven't gotten any bigger, but you have much more resources even in a weak computer, so short answer, no don't worry about it  :D

I check "force idle task to execute". If you don't you potentially have a program cued up ready to run taking space. If you force it to run out, it clears up that space.

I don't remember what the selections are for monitored programs, and the minimize while waiting only means that it will minimize AlacrityPC so that you can see whats happening to the "monitored programs". I wouldn't worry about those either.

With your system down to 21 your in pretty good shape.

This is one of the only things I know of where bragging rights comes from less rather then more.

I have a new computer that my son built, and the wife paid for. Its a screaming machine. I run AH2 with all the bells and whistles and FR never drops below 60. I DON'T run Alacrity, I haven't cleaned out the processes (just looked for the first time and have over 40  :O )

I think I'd rather have mine to brag about than Denholms   :P

I have 22 processes running with AH and WMP running, never had an issue.

I don't use Alacrity PC, I just know what I need and don't need.
