Thread Auto-lock
« on: January 11, 2009, 12:59:00 PM »
I'm sure it's been talked about and asked for before, but I just want to bring it up again.  What's the harm in setting the system to lock threads with no new posts in the last 30 days?

For instance:
Original Post
hey u call me a noob twin tail u ought to be abkle to take the pain

Last real reply
I mean I don't see what the problem is we all have a abkle humbker every now and then.  :O

Reply that bumped it to today
I MEANT TO SAY ABLE :aok

A totally unecessary bump of a totally useless thread.  Auto-lock of stale threads would have saved us from useless crap like this.

Then again, when everyone does the "SEARCH" thing when you ask for a plane here, what do you do after you find it? Bump it?  :lol

HTC doesn't code the BBS they use third party software so that feature would have to already be built in.  Either way I think rather than an auto lock feature something like a pop up that said "You are about to reply to a thread that has been idle for more than 14 days.  Do you wish to continue?" would be the best solution.

Rule #10?

Just make a new post and perhaps quote the relevant part of the post you found.  Quotes include a link to the original post, so people could easily get to the old post without much hassle.

I'd prefer the thread creator have the ability to lock/delete his or her thread. That would be a much better solution.

Bad idea - I can see someone posting an absolutely nasty message and locking it right away so nobody can respond.  Then we'll have hundreds of single-post, locked threads polluting the forums.

I understand the BBS software might not have this feature, or HTC decided to not implement it - but hey, we can wish.

but denholm, the witch hunts would never get locked or deleted by the thread creator, Skuzzy would still have A LOT to do.

I really don't think an auto-lock would change the fact that people are still going to post garbage every once in a while. He would have the same amount of work either way. However some users realize their mistakes and would appreciate the ability to lock or better yet erase the thread they started.
