Woops, I  posted about Windows 7 in Software   :(

The buggers won't let you try the Beta from XP, only Vista.   What about those of us who already tried Vista, know it bites and won't buy 7 until we try it?

Personally, the SP3 is working great on  my test machine, so now all 4 of them get patched.  That'll work for a few years.

I'm sorry but every time someone says Vista or Windows 7 I flash back to the Mac advertisement.

PC has a big pile of money, and he counts out 10 bills  for advertising, 1 goes for actually fixing vista. But at the end he gives up, shoves it all to the advertising side.

That image is just too close to true to get it out of my head.

They won't fix vista, they will just change the name, and advertise like crazy.

Ohh they will fix a few of the biggest problems, but its still going to be a hog.

Just hope it's not THAT much of a hog. Recently had to upgrade some software (and endure the resulting hardware upgrades) at work, and the only thing the vendor will certify is XP (because of numerous conflicts and problems with Vista). Unfortunately, the window for buying XP is closing...so what are we going to do next time we need something?

I "thought" that if you buy a pc or laptop that has Vista on it and wanted to downgrade back to XP either microsoft or the maker would send you a cd.
I could be wrong, not sure where I heard it. The only reason I ask is because I bought my wife a new laptop for xmas and with a dual core 2.5ghz processor and 3gb of ram....it's slower than molasses in winter  :furious
Crap now I gotta redo my cool sig.....crap!!! I cant remeber how to do it all !!!!!

That's bad intel there.  If you want to XP you're going to have to buy it.  Coincidentally XP costs about twice as much right now for a full version as Vista...

On the other side of that, once you do load XP on that machine it will run like the proverbial violated Hominidae.

Actually, most of the complaints are founded on crap computers.

My dad just bought a $700 Gateway Quad core, came with Vista. He was talking about finding a 64-bit copy of XP.... Until he actually RAN Vista. "Hmm.... Once you make it look like XP, it's not all that bad...." And another thing.... It found his DirecTV box on the network. No other computer he had would do that. And it's really not slow. He was downloading patches for his programs, installing some new things, converting a few DVDs..... Didn't even blink. It was just chuggin on along, minding it's own business. It's actually been very good so far. No real hiccups to speak of. And the thing is SMOKING fast. Windows 7 is supposed to be 30% faster in the official commercial release. Now that's gonna be neat.

For all the flak it's taken, Vista really isn't all that bad on a proper computer. If you think Vista sucks, you need a new computer. Runs fine on multi-cores.

Been testing the 64bit Win7 awhile and it seems to work pretty well for me. Unlike the Macs I manage I did not have to buy a new machine like when apple went from 10.4 to OS 10.5.
My x-fi, 280gtx and other hardware work great. CH sticks are happy as well as track IR.

As for a resource hog couple % cpu and 18% ram in normal browsing state.

Oh, IL2 4.08 to Mod versions, COD4,  Silent Hunter and Black Shark play just fine on it. I do not know about AH though.

In all fairness, his art work is just as good as Vista/Windows 7 compatibility, and far less frustrating to understand. :)

lol point well taken. Vista has been terrible here on 10 machines.

However, you CAN get XP as a "downgrade" when buying a computer directly from an Original Equipment Manufacturer....at least for now. Just bought several from Dell, where the XP "downgrade" ( :rofl) cost another $99; the XP is preloaded, but you have the option of going to the also installed Vista when you want to ( :rofl :rofl). Also purchased some tablet PCs from Toshiba, where the "downgrade" ( :rofl) comes standard, just for the asking. (Or maybe it was $20).

Thing is that from Dell at least XP is only available as an option for business computers. If you buy with the exact same specifications from their home use portal, XP is not available at all.

I am running Vista on a duo core AMD 2.6ghz cpu and it runs about as fast as XP did on my AMD single core 2.0 ghz. If Vista was actually an upgrade, I would have seen a significant performance increase going to the duo core cpu. In reality though, performance wise, Vista is a downgrade.

Is Microsoft going to charge us for a complete operating system for what basically amounts to a service pack? Or will this be an upgrade disk that costs much less than a full version?

a game rig here, running Vista 64, 6 Gig ram, no problems at all. I dont understand the hype here.
And i can run my GPU with DX10 power, why should i buy latest hardware and run an old OS? lol
If the next OS comes, i will upgrade anyway.

The statement below is true.

It was about time for me to reinstall my lappy after a year so i dl and installed windows7 beta.

So far no complaints, and its alot faster than the Vista computer my missus is running even if the specs are ALOT lower on this thing.
