See we told you Warloc, the Allies are going to walk right over the IJN.

You should have checked the speed charts?

I think this setup is great for representing the US vs Japan while both sides still had teeth.
It's a very competitive setup. Nice job Warloc.

A few things need to be tweaked, and I would have had the split closer, but we are always looking for ways to improve, in any case im glad its been fun. Frame 3 will have a few new wrinkles to wrap it up.

The score thing as I have said before is something we do, but I hope nobody lets a point difference dampen the fun of the fights, some frames just end up having a wide spread. <S> to both CiCs as this was their first shot at doing that. The #1 thing is to have a good immersive night of WW2 flying.

As a first time CiC for Axis I didn't fly because I just figured my plans would goto hell in a handbasket.  I jumped into a few bombers to get a birdseye view of the action between field hopping.  Even though I saw a large attrition rate of my defensive fighters and my sweepers I was amazed that almost all of my Ki-67 groups made it to target with almost no resistance.  Seems some of my bomber guys had trouble hitting those pesky DDs though.   :salute to the Allied pig dogs and my glorious IJN and IJAAF pilots. The Emperor was pleased.

i was stressed leading up to it, but I didn't want it to end because I was REALLY enjoying myself.  I was very happy that I guessed right on what group of planes would hit a19 and from the correct direction. It also helped that the B-24 pilots had a very hard time putting bombs on target. I think I saw at least 4 sticks of bombs hit the ord bunker next to the offset fighter hanger.

Most of this I have already mentioned... but I might as well say it again.   :)

The thing that cant (or wont because of refusal) be modeled is SOP for each side.  What were the typical patrol alts of the Japanese at that point in the war? Not 20k plus, that I know.  What was the typical bombing alts for B24's and B25's in that theater in late '43 (it was higher than 15k for B24's and lower for B25's)?  Why are ALL forces in the air at all times 'cept for a re-fuel/re-arm?  If the scenario is open for two hours then why the rush and why are most of the major combat ops over within the first 30 min (USE the full 2 hours and the "buffs must drop ord in the first hour" rule is quite limiting and not needed, imo).  Why does every aircraft launch at the same time?  What were the air raid warning systems like in the PTO at that time?  Should the bases be flashing at all (make bases have their own scouts/defense)?

Point is, just as I have said before, this scenario is much like the others: meet in the middle and duke it out.  I mean no disrespect, but there is a lot more to setting up a scenario than simply looking up forces in the area and saying "Go".  I'm having a fun time no doubt as these scenarios are a huge breath of fresh air compared to the MA.

I for one think the player ratios are a bit off.  I also think the Japs have far too many offensive aircraft in the air at one time.  I think there should be some restrictions as to what fighters can escort buffs, what fighters can carry ord, etc.  There are lots of things that I could mention, but ultimately I am having fun and I do appreciate the efforts.  ;)  <S>

Only 2 groups of bombers had escorts for the Axis. The D3As and the level bombers hitting A10. The other level bomber groups had no escort.  But I did use heavy fighter sweeps in advance of the bombers. I think some of the problem was range.  All of the Axis fighters could reach any assigned target, while the Allies were limited in their escorts due to range.  The P-40s and P-39s would have been hard pressed to get to A19 and back.

As a scout for the 332nd protecting C49, I picked up the SBD attack force over a sector out from the CV.  This let some of us spread the C-Hawks out and make them a bit less effective then they usually are.  The P38s and B25s that came in from the north (I think) had a pretty clean run (but I think they were not assigned C49 as a target and just picked a route that put them over our taskforce).  The 332nd were all down by t+60 and C49 should have been an easy cleanup for a second attack.  I was surprised that C49 wasn't hit again.

All in all, it was a fun first FSO back in a number of months.  <S> C-Hawks for a valiant attack.  <S> 68 Lightning Lancers for your p38 skills.
