Treize (pronounced 'Trays')
« on: January 21, 2009, 06:09:22 AM »
You recognise any of these folks?

From another board, supposed to have been taken in 1942 in Varna or Tschaika or Constanza by someone from SAGR 125.

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Very difficult to tell.  It almost looks like a Romanian aircraft in the back judging from the nose cowling.

Quote
IAR-80
Grupul 8
lt. Micu Ion
Summer 1941

The IAR-80 was the only indigenous Romanian fighter of the era.  It was an outstanding technical achievement of the Brasov works, especially considering the scarce resources at hand. The construction utilized rear fuselage and tail from the licence-built PZL P.24 and the wing of SM 79 bomber reduced in size to 50%. It proved a successful an modern design. In 1940, it was a good match for the Bf 109E, being only about 20 km/h slower and equal in climb and manoeuvrability. During the entire war, Romanian IAR-80s in all variants scored over 500 aerial victories.

As far as who the pilots are, I'm waiting for Treize to show up. :D
I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.
(quote on a Polish pilot's grave marker in Nottinghamshire, England)

Yeah, thats an IAR in the background. I'm not good at recognizing people from pics though, I'll have to take a better look at it later when I have a more time though, I'm just popping in for a minute right now. Some of them do look familiar, but I'm drawing blanks on the names. :salute
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

I recognise a few, but still drawing a blank on the names. The middle one of the three with their backs to the camera is a German Officer, as might the one in the dark sunglasses be, but the rest appear to all be Rumanian.

Do you have any more info on it? Is it scanned from the original or found on the 'net?

Darkglam's avatar looks familiar. Probably a Romanian  :D
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

According to the professional help I called in, it looks like the Rumanian pilots in the picture are the pilots and crews of a bombers. Note the heavy flight gear on the guy centered in the pic. It looks like a propaganda or posed picture to show the cooperation of the two air forces, there wer a lot of them done for the newspapers.
