SA58 (Belgian FAL) in it's original 'penquin' furniture. It's now set up with black walnut furniture, a DA rail mount, Israeli forward assist and tritium night sights. Efficient, accurate, very reliable battle rifle. The big boltie is a very, very accurate Finn M-39... a superb sniping weapon. The receiver dates from 1896. It and many like it have been throwing back invading Russians for over a hundred years. Thought it might be nice to preserve it. :)

This stuff always interests me, and I would absolutely love it as a hobby.  The only problem is building them...  I have no idea how I would even get the materials, then figure out how to wire it so that everything works, and then the engine.  (I want to build a plane from scratch, and not from a kit, but I have no idea how)

I love watching enormous gas powered RC planes take off.... especially the jets.

It's actually fairly simple.  Especially if you break down the whole airplane into the vairous systems that make it go.  There are a lot of people out there who build scratch built airplanes where they manufacture their own components for the structure of the airframe and the covering can be purchased from numerous places depending on what method you choose.

You'll start by either designing your own airplane and drawing out the plans for it to ensure that the design is sound.  Another option is to use existing plans which have all the dimensions and requirements for the various components figured out already and all you need to do is fabricate them.  You'll in effect build your own kit.

Once your airframe is complete making it actually work is probably the easiest portion of the construction.  Installing the radio receiver and servos, pushrods and connections is not an electronic or electrical job.  Same with the engine and it's pushrod and servo.  The engine needs a fuel tank, feed and return line but that too is an easy to install item.  It's basic mechanics and uses very simple tools that you'll likely already have.  Covering is not a difficult process either using typically heat shrink materials cut to size and then shrunk to a tightness with a heat gun and iron.  From there it is a matter of plugging the servos into the proper channel on the receiver, making sure the aircraft is balanced properly and having at it.

I will say I would advise you build some kits and get some experience flying them before you go out and crash the airplane you just poured your heart into.  You ARE going to crash and while learning minimizing the costs of the lessons is important.

I have no doubt I'll crash.  The problem is those stupid R/C planes you can get from wal-mart... they take 12 hours to charge for like... 15 minutes of airtime.  Plus they're made of Styrofoam so the slightest breeze carries them away.

I've posted this outfit on here before but these are some of the best bang-for-buck airframes out there.

http://www.jkaerotech.com/

They take a beating and keep on trucking.  They have designs for beginners to learn with and more advanced designs for fun.  Easy to build, work well enough to learn the ropes and get comfortable flying before you try to tackle more expensive designs.

I owned at one point 2 P-51s, 2 F4Us, the Ta-152 and an A6M Zero in addition to their T-52 Trainer.

BEST THING TO REMEMBER WITH R/C MODELS IS

every airplane has a date already on it. you just never can find itr till the day it crashes :D :aok

I have flown RC since 1993. I fly scale and have flownn WWII fighters and Jets. Right now I am flying helicopters.

My interest in RC wasn't inspired by AH, but I figure someone here may enjoy looking at my latest project.

Well I didn't exactly reply with WHAT i fly... but... I mainly fly giant scale aerobatics aircraft.  I also have a yellow aircraft F/A-18 with a jetcat turbine.  Dabble some in helis, suprsingly dont get THAT into 3d with them.. thus why I am interested in that scale cobra...

Also play around with some electric aerobats and EDFs...

My favorite plane?  My Hangar 9 46% ultimate with DA-150 on the nose.. TOO  much fun!!

I've just recently gotten into R/C. My real passion is in spudguns. But, I do have two R/C aircraft. One is an untested EDF RTF A-10 warthog, the last time weather was good to fly was the day the thing went together. My other, which I have flown, is an Esky Co-Dauphin Heli. Should have gotten the Apache, that thing has some tough plastic hide. I want oh-so-dearly to fly my A-10, it looks too cool sitting in my room.

Plus, there's a 2.4GHz wireless camera waiting to go in the canopy.....
