The rack
« on: February 03, 2009, 03:10:10 PM »
I have read that the rack for the drop tank on aircraft like the 109 slows you down ( witch i totally understand)
so if you don't take it you'll have a cleaner aircraft and it goes faster....

My question is is this modled into other aircraft that have wing mounts that you can clearly see like the P51 and P47....

I see there wing racks but if i do not take drop tanks is the aircraft modled like the racks are not there?

Aircraft that have standard racks are not affected by drop tanks (once they're released).  That also means that not taking drop tanks affords no advantage.

Off the top of my head, these aircraft incur a drag penalty when you take a drop tank:

109 (all)
190A/D series
152 (this is an error)
F4U-1
F4U-1A

P-39 does too IIRC.

38J takes a hit when carrying the rockets. The bazooka style tubes will create drag.

They don't jettison after you fire all the rockets?  If that's true, then it would also go for the P-51B and P-47D-25.

If they carry the bazooka type launcher the unit does not jetison. The 38L has a different type rocket that launches from a tree.

And the 5" rockets are more powerful, too.

P-38G also.

Only the redone aircraft have the hits on the speed if you take bomb, rockets, or drop tanks. Some planes have permanent hard points like the Ki-84, but ones that don't like the Me 109s will be a bit slower if you take a drop tank or bomb.
