PT boat ammo and reloading
« on: January 11, 2001, 02:27:00 PM »
I was wondering last night if the ammo shown in the counters is the total aboard or just the total that's in the cans and feeding the guns at that moment.

Did they carry extra ammo below decks?  I wouldna imagine it would be too far fetched to have some extra cans of .50 below, though the larger calibers may not have had extra.

And can we get a way to seperate the 20mm from the 2 .50 mounts when firing?  There's fire position, but that reduces you to just 1 twin .50 when it would be nice to use both twin .50s and save the 20mm.

I mentioned briefly in another post that the ammo loadout on the PT boat seemed small. I think a "timed" reload should be an option. I cannot believe that a ptboat had only one basic load per gun on the boat. It seems a bit out of place to have one "magazine" worth of ammo for each gun.

Of course I have no data so my post is without merit.

Cave, not much time in Jet Boats here, can you give me a rundown on the keys and guns they are associated with?

2=?
3=?
 etc.

Thanks

Rip,

From what i've seen, 2 & 3 are both twin .50's. 4 is the 20mm, 5 is the forward 37mm, 6 is the rear 40mm. 7 fires rockets.

Agreed it would be nice to be able to configure which guns fire. Just not sure what the best method of doing so would be.

1 Driver's seat, sit here to roll yer fish off the sides (secondary fire button)

2 Position #1, Aft twin .50 mount

3 Position #2, Foreward twin .50 mount

4 Position #3, 20mm AA gun on the fore deck

5 Position #4, 37mm cannon on the focsle

6 Position #5, Bofors 40mm cannon on the aft deck (makes a great fishin chair too)

7 Position #6, rocket launchers, press the o key (open bay doors, map it in gunner keys) to swing the launchers out and into position, then the stick for elevation (just need a range indicator like the big guns have   ), and squeeze the trigger to fire.  You can fire 1 or you can lay down on the trigger and fire all 16 rapid fire.

=======================

Maverick I was thinking more along the lines of .reload [position #] to bring up another box of ammo from below.  Once you use the .reload # command that particular gun is "out of commission" for 30-60 seconds while it's reloaded.  You can only reload when you get down to 10% of the ammo for that weapon.

Dinnae about reloading the rocket launchers.  Could they do that on the boats while they were deployed?  I'd imagine so, if they had extra rockets aboard, but did they carry spares?

And I'd still like a way to seperate the 20mm AA gun from the twin .50s when using the 'fire all' key, to save 20mm ammo for later

Caveman,

That system of reloading sounds good to me. I just can't buy the extremely limited ammo loadout on the PT as it is now. Of course, my PT seldom lives past the initial ammo load anyhow...
