horde defense
« on: February 04, 2009, 10:18:08 PM »
In the unlikely event that a large pack of low-ENY, multi-cannon aircraft slither in on the deck........

..........Can we have booby-trapped map rooms? Japanese style. Grenades, punji sticks and maybe a few velociraptors thrown in?  :D

I do think though, that both the vh and ord bunkers need to be strengthened. It seems too easy for two heavy fighters to make one pass and
the vh and ords can be taken out (at least the ords on a small field). And then "operation steamroller" follows shortly thereafter.
Maybe some hardened ack guns in the town as well.

Here's a really good question, when an NOE hits, are you one of the few people that up? Or are you one of the ones who just say "NOE at ___" and then think nothing of it again until it happens to the base you were at?

I'm not flaming you, but I sometimes feel that some people need to ask this question before complaining about NOE hordes.

I up, because I like the fights, but once the vulching starts it's no longer a fight and I leave. I couldn't care less whether you get the base or not, I'm just looking for a fight. I fight the fighters, and if a goon happens to fly under me I'll make a pass at him, but I'm not one that will go looking for the goon. Noe's are to limit the time the enemy has to react and defend, vulching just kills a fight. If you want the base, fight for it! If your fighters can't shoot down our fighters, then you didn't fight well enough and don't deserve the base.

I almost always up when the base is flashing and there is no dar bar. I'll even up if there's a horde over the town, hoping to get just one of those tards.
As far as upping onto a capped field, all it does is pad their stats even more.
I send out multiple warnings over country and the response is often too little, too late. I don't expect everyone to drop what they're doing to protect a base. The hordes use the response time to their advantage and can pwn a town and cap a field in a new york minute. Espescially if gvs are spawning in as well.

I don't want them to play my way, I just want to make it more of a challenge for them. Seeing how much they enjoy being challenged.

The fun is in sneaking out of the base low in a fast fighter and running across the trailing goons.
Boy they hate it it when those c47's get blown up.

I think it was either last night, or Tuesday night, and they were trying that, I just announced over country

"NOE AT ___ LOTS OF 110S, LETS UP AND BUST THEM SUCKERS!" and about 5 or 6 people upped, and we completely busted the mission.

unfortunately plus it does not always work that way. I wouldn't even say it does half the time either.

I am all for anything that makes it a little harder to take bases using the NOE method. This and strengthening the FH might also help with those that like to bust up the fight by taking down hangers in order to take the base with ease.

I like to up to take on the NOE horde also but like others here I won't once they have the field capped. You just don't stand much of a chance of getting up with vulching 110's and nikki's over the field.

How about no NOE anymore...make it so if your in the radar ring, at any alt, you are shown on radar.

They they'll come in at 20k, level everything, and take it anyways. Then everyone'll be complaining about that.

The NOE is fine, but I think it should be made an art form.  It is too easy to do with the max 500ft altitude.  Lower it back down to 200ft and make it so NOE is truely... N O E.  Make it so unless over water, auto-pilot is almost impossible.

I won't even bother looking for a goon unless the town is flat. I'm looking for fights, not goons.

You just dont get it do you? destroying somones ego here isnt nearly as fun as doing it to a whole group of pilots who have dared try to sneak one of MY countrys bases.
Anyway goons can fight back....just the other night some jerk threw a beer can out his windo and dinged my typh,....you know the pretty one with the red nose?...

Seriously it comes down to the old fight bettween guys that say they want to dogfight, and guys that say they want to WIN. Niether is wrong, butmy way assures the field will not be taken...

What are you wining? You kill the goon everyone runs away, You fight the fighters and they should keep at it as long as there is a chance to get the capture.
