During a 4 days test (february 1943) in Guidonia (Italy), Regia Areonautica and Luftwaffe tested the Bf109G-4 and the Fw190A-5 against the "Series 5" italian fighters: the Macchi C.205V (and N type), the Fiat G55 and the Reggiane 2005.

Documents (Rechlin 1943) come from the test department of the Luftwaffe (courtesy of -IREG-). All I can say here is that:

1) The production C.205V (not the 2x7,7mm one) had roughly the same climb performance of the 109G-5 up to 6,000mt (about 20K).

2) The C.205V, combat tested against the 190A-5, reached 440Kph (275Mph) IAS at 6,000mt, the *same* speed I register with the AH C.205V. No WEP use is specified for any fighter.

The LW personnel were impressed by construction quality, armament and performance of the italian fighters.

The 190A-5 was the king of the day: faster, better roller, diver and .... very interesting is that up to 6,000mt the 190A-5 never suffered too much during climbs tests against the DB605A1 engined fighters. This could be another proof that the WB 190A-4 performance is someway tweaked down.

"And one of the finest aircraft I ever flew was the Macchi C.205. Oh, beautiful. And here you had the perfect combination of italian styling and german engineering .... it really was a delight to fly ... and we did tests on it and were most impressed." - Captain Eric Brown

Just the A-4 in WB? I thought all LW planes, everywhere, are "tweaked"

The AFDU test of FW190A-3 vs Spitfire MkIX said the FW190A-3 dropped off in climbrate compared to the Spitfire above 7000m.

Shouldn't there be some changes in engine with A-5?

FW190A-3 BMW 801D-2
FW190A-4 BMW 801D-2 modified to allow MW 50 usage.
FW190A-5 BMW 801D-2 on 15cm longer engine mounting, rear fuselage extended too.
FW190A-6 standardised 4xMG151/20 in wings.
FW190A-7 standardised 2xMG131 cowl guns, most had ETC 501 rack on centreline.
FW190A-8 BMW 801D-2 with MW 50 system installed, ETC 501 rack permanently installed.
FW190A-9 BMW 801TS.

Something like that.
