I just can't see the flames being that large on an engine fire. The smooke looks a bit to concentrated and think along with some variations of different shades of black/gray. Also, the underside shadow of the 109 is too dark for that daylight scene.

Wouldnnt the flame go on a linear path from the B24, unless the B24 had turned during the fire?
If the engine was on fire, it would no longer be functioning, thus no longer producing thrust, and there would be twice the thrust on the right wing as the left wing- the aircraft would turn left.
