Yes the mileage tax is an increase and no toll roads are excluded for mileage tax purposes. I might find it more acceptable if the gas tax was removed but I will never find the gps device acceptable. I think you can imagine why that is a bad thing. This idea will further restrict commerce and the economy of America which is largely dependant upon transportation and the trucking industry.

I agree the GPS device is just asking for the government later on to get "smart" ideas and open for abuse by them. Anybody who believes that they will never use that information is deluded.

I'm worried about more than a GPS tag always getting me a speeding ticket every time I punch the gas for too long.  Think about how many goverment agencies trying to balance their budgets would take advantage of it.  I can see everyone from the meter-maid to the forest/park ranger useing this.

Here in the good old People's Republic of Taxachusetts our dear Gov. wants to do one of three things.

1: Install a chip into the inspection sticker and charge by the mile.

2: Raise the turnpike tolls so that people can't afford them.

3: Raise the gas tax up by another 19 cents per gallon making it the highest in the nation at 42 cents per gallon.

Right now it looks like the 19 cents is winning.

All this share the wealth BS is really making my * hurt.

I understand that. My question would be is the mileage tax in addition to fuel taxes? Also I wonder
if they will increase the number of toll bridges and highways?

Yes and yes.

Only thing I can suggest is that every US citizen needs to call/write/email their senators and representatives and explain to them why this is a bad idea.  Pfft carpool I work on third shift and about 35 miles from my house.

Got an "on-star" equipped vehicle then you already have gps tracking, carry a cell phone? yep it's in there also. Really george orwell wrote 1984 about big brother controlling all aspects of your life and while off by a few years it's becoming more of a fact than the fiction he wrote about.

Truckers have been yelling about double taxation for years in regards to toll roads, we pay an annual tax for road use, a fuel tax, and then have to pay a toll to drive on the road we were just taxed for? Trucks pay over 1/3 of the annual road tax and now the politicians feel that the average american motorist can be forced to pay the same.

What they will do is put a small receiver just like the I-pass/EZpass transmitter in every car, each time you fuel you will be charged a pre set fee for your car based on estimated mpg and the amount of fuel you buy. I think the test that i heard about it averaged 25 cents a gallon tax? So if you had a car that got 20 miles to the gallon you would have to drive 80 miles to pay 1 dollar in taxes?

The only way i would go along with this type of taxation is if it is locked up and can only be used for road repair/improvements and nothing else! The highway trust fund has been so abused for so long by so many politicians that it is useless and broke and beyond any help as it currently is being run/managed.
