I'm reading The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson, and I highly recommend it. If you want to understand what's happening to the global economy and the banking crisis, this book explains step-by-step all the different interlocking components that affect each other in clear, layman's language. It's also entertaining and fun to read because of the history that's behind the financial institutions we take for granted today.
