Entertainment system set up
« on: March 01, 2009, 05:31:22 PM »
I spent the last two days setting my entertainment system. I could have built a computer in a third of the time. What a wiring nightmare. 5.1 speakers and a gazillion holes in the back up the receiver. I have two dvd players, a tuner, and a satelite receiver. So far I have only one dvd player hooked up. There's no real hook up for the last dvd player unless I want to use it as a cd player only. My question is can I hook it up as a dvr? The receiver is a Panasonic vsx-815 pr vsx 915. The manual says it doesn't matter which model the hookups are the same.

VSX-815 is a Pioneer, not a Panasonic.   How many Component video hookups are left on the receiver?

Oops, Have a panasonic component as well. Yes it is Pioneer. The other DVD is Panasonic. Off the top of my head, there is a cd, auxiliary, front panel and dvr/vcr. It looks like I may be able to connect it to the dvr or cd with composites if I use an S-video input.

S-Video would give you the best picture of the two.

You should have a DVR component video hookup on the receiver.   If it is already used, then use VCR.

Clearly Getback, your next project should be building an HTPC.

If I had $500-600 lying around, I'd do this in a heartbeat.

Hooked up the 2nd dvd player to the dvr. Was some trial and error there. Works well though. Used an S-video out.
