Z is for Zwilling or twin, two ordinary He 111H's mated together and meant for towing Me 323 glider.

Amazing thing is that one netsite says that is was able to carry 4 X 1800 kg bombs... That is total of 7200 kg or 14400 pounds!

Could this be true or is it just misinformation?

hmm.. would that plane count as one or two kills if you separate them with a cannon?

well, if that's the LRG you're referring to, they seem to throw in a lot of speculative/experimental configurations to make the planes sound really impressive.  Yup, the Zwilling was primarily a glider tug for the Me321 (the 323 had something like 8 gnome-rhone engines on it).  I think something like a dozen were built.  Il-2 will have both.  I like the concept, and the idea of the plane as a target more than as somethin' to fly and blow stuff up with.
