Since my exile from AH
« on: March 02, 2009, 11:21:51 PM »
Not that it's of great interest but here goes. I've studied for the CPA exam 14 of the 16 days that I've been gone. That's a long journey! Finished laying down my floating floor in the living room and hall. It turned into a 3 1/2 year project but it's now done. Took out 2 bags and a box of tools to the garage. Also took out 2 bags of trash. Man! it is nice to look into the living room and have all the clutter gone. Still have to hang some doors and install base boards. Cleaned my back yard up. Have a great start on my back bedroom. That is where I've been putting everything for the last 6 years that I wanted out of the way. Took me 3 hours just to shred all the documents and decide what was trash and what needs to go to the Salvation Army. Finally have my entertainment system moved and set up. It's been a year since I started that. Watched 3 movies last night in between cooking dinner and studying.  Took some film to Walmart today that I have had set around the house for over 2 years and grabbed some spackle to fix minor defects in the drywall. I think I must have picked up over $20 in change from every nook and cranny in the house.

You can add looking for a job everyday and researching companies that may be potential employers. All I can say right now is wow am I tired.

:salute all. Hopefully I will return after I sit for the CPA exam. Looks like it's going to be in September. I sincerely wished I would have started this a long time ago.

Oh oh oh, almost forgot. Got my DVD drive working and learned how to use Lightscribe. My brother loved his cd.

Are you doing any courses....like Becker?

Becker got me through the exams when I did it...expensive but well worth it.

I wish I could go to Becker. However, I'm unemployed. I've been using Bisk and my school library has study resources. I also have several Gliem and Delaney's laying around. I will be using the tests in those books. Bisk seems pretty good though. I'm learning and relearning a considerable amount of material. So far I have still missed only two days of Studying.

Well, lemme give you one little piece of advise that stood me in REALLY good stead and which was originally provided by a Becker lecturer.

In the multiple choice questions you can generally eliminate 2 out of 4 (or 5) choices immediately.  If any of the remaining choices have the words "Always" or "Never" in them, don't pick them....the logic is really simple.  In Law and Taxation there is ALWAYS an exception to any given rule.  ALWAYS.  The choice they are offering you on the exam looks absolutely correct and probably is...the only part that is not correct is the Never or Always.

In tax, for example, you are studying Federal taxes only...there could be a state statute that you would not even necessarily be taught or know about.  Same applies to law.

hehe

You can test that theory on some old exam questions...I did.

One other thought....Becker has DVDs you can buy which have the full courses and content on them.  I know someone who passed the exam just using the DVDs and the guy claimed it was better than being in a class because you can rewind and watch entire lectures over and over again.

They are probably pricey though, but I suspect it costs less than rewriting...just on exam fees alone.  Of course you may know someone who has them and I am not aware of how encrypted they are.....enough said.  ;)

Honestly, I cannot recommend Becker highly enough...they have courses you can do online now too I believe.

Good luck mon amis...if I think of anything else I'll let you know.
