That's all great and well, but with the military retraining a navy officer to guard a stack of food with a rifle, it makes you kinda wounder what the point of joining any one branch is.



Congrats tho! , lets just hope 5 years down the line they don't train you like a marine and send you to "take" some land from the "enemy" when everything says your butt should be out on some ocean someplace, far far from  a ground war.

Nice.  Thinking FA-18E/F/Gs, E-2s or something more towards rotary?  If you go with the Super Hornet then you'll likely end up out here in California at Lemoore NAS, I try to make their bi-annual airshow religiously and have a friend who was an AE (avionics/aviation electrician) with (I think) VFA-147 back when they flew FA-18Cs.

I think I would like an FA-18. I'm not much for the F-35, and I REALLY like the idea of having a RIO. Two heads are better than one in the air, and I like flying with someone else. Gives me someone to talk to

<<< Im a AE. Or he could go P-3s and never see a carrier.  The Navy is currently moving most of its rotary squadrons in Florida to Norfolk where Im normally stationed. Or he could fly rotary out of Coronado in San Diego, and as a officer that is the place to be.

I have a buddy who flew P-3s with VPT-47 or something like that out of K-Bay. I laughed every time he got sent to Iraq...

Then you'll be wanting to be a F/A-18F driver, the F/A-18E is the one-seater Super Hornet (slightly less internal fuel on the two-seat varient I think).

Serenity, if you want a new ride that might interest you, but you'd have to talk to someone in the Navy to find out how to get there: Checkout the new F/A-18G Growlers ( http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/military/ea18g/index.html   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EA-18G_Growler ) It's replacing the older electronic warfare EA-6B Prowlers.  It's a F/A-18F (two-seat super hornet) where you'll always be flying around with a guy in the back that knows everything that's going on around you.  They're supposed to start equiping operational squads with them this year, so you might be lucky enough to jump aboard something there if you can.
