Aces High II on Linux

If you want to run high-performance Windows games like Aces High II on Linux, here is the information you need.

I filmed ALL of the steps, in EXACT detail, that I used to switch from Windows to Linux, step-by-baby-step, building up to a flaming-hot Aces High II system tweaked for amazing performance. Although I spent almost a month documenting all of this, it only takes about 3 or 4 hours to follow all of the videos from start to finish, and you'll see the exact sequence of steps that worked for me.

I broke it down into 27 separate video chapters, each divided up into separate, tiny video snippets showing every detail, and I ended up with a dual-boot system that can easily boot into Windows or Linux.

I've done this on 5 separate systems now, and the same sequence works on all of them. (Actually I attempted it on 6 systems, but AH2 would only run on 5 of the 6 systems. One of my two laptops won't go beyond AH1). The published videos focus on the oldest, weakest system I've got that will run AH2, and the resulting performance amazed me after I got everything optimized. Check it out here:

What kind of FPS range are you getting - best and worst?

Well, the reference machine that I documented in the videos was running on an old Pentium 4 3Ghz machine with a tired, fragile old nVidia 6200 graphics card. With both of the graphic sliders (detail and range) centered, I get about 30FPS on the runway, and about 70FPS at medium altitude. Looking straight up, out over the water, it goes above 100FPS. Too bad Cedega is on subscription based system. It's a ripoff considering that in a little over a year it's already cost you the price of OEM windows that you can keep forever thus negating any savings created from using linux in the first place.

Not to mention it doesn't even run everything windows does, still.

It's true that Cedega is marketed as a "for fee" subscription. I don't like that either. The free "Wine" emulator is making great progress, and with careful, detailed tinkering it will run AH2, but at a lower framerate than I see with Cedega. If it continues to progress, then we may never need anything else.

The Cedega subscription, as an ongoing thing, is only required for ongoing updates. If you are only interested in AH2 compatibility, you can unsubscribe after you download a version that supports your needs. A 6-month subscription is now $25.00. At that level, I'm fairly happy.

No. Sorry, I 'm in the same state as you. I recently heard about their gaming edition, but have not tried it at all.
