Ground Vehicle Training
« on: June 19, 2008, 09:44:16 AM »
OK, another in my long line of stupid questions.  And yes, believe it or not I have spent time reading the manual.  For some reason, the couple of times I have gotten into a ground vehicle, I have not been able to get the darn thing to move.  Here is what I try.  "E" to start the engine, "Q" to put it in gear, then "W" in case I was shifting the wrong way.....  What am I missing?

Push your joystick forward fella....use q to go up the gears, w to go back down (climbing hills etc)... :salute

I'm the worst pilot ingame ya know!!!

It's all unrealistic crap requested by people who want pie in the sky actions performed without an understanding of how things work and who can't grasp reality.

After you hit Q to get into first gear, push joystick forward to start moving. If you hit Q once, then W you are just back into the neutral gear - no movement of course. There is a gear indicator at the drivers position.

If still nothing works, your stick may not mapped for Mode 2 yet (the standard mode for vehicles) - Just go to map controllers, select your stick, select Mode 2 and klick the "Copy Mode 1" button.

Two more tips:

- You can set your views in tanks just like in a plane. It's essential for the drivers position, where you can use the arrow / pg up keys to move your head outside the tank. Contrary to a frequent belief this doesn't make you more vulnerable.
-  While moving, you can steer your tank from the commander's or gunner's position by using the rudder.

I tried mapping my CH HOTAS setup for mode 2 to try a vehicle but when I went back to fly a plane all my mode 1 settings had been deleted.

I don't use the CH program, I use the in game controller mapper.

Make sure to check the box to automatically select modes. It will use the correct mode when you choose a plane or gv.
