IIRC, Frank Luke used his handgun to resist capture after he was on the ground - and was shot by the German soldiers with rifles. I've never heard of him using his handgun from a plane in flight. And of course, with me being from Arizona, it makes me an instant authority on all things pertaining to the fellow Arizonian Frank Luke.

Luke's mistake was bringing a handgun to a rifle fight. OTOH if he'd had a Glock instead of that POS Colt 1911, things might have turned out diffferently.
