The Kiwis have a lot of problems with non native species it seems.
NZ is very light on any sort of natural predators for a range of species. So introduced species tend to dominate the local wildlife and usually have other area's of impact. The last significant predator we had was the Haast Eagle (think eagle capable of killing people) and it died out when the Moa population was wiped out from hunting.
So hunting of introduced species (goats, deer, thar, turkeys, hares, rabbits, stoats, weazels etc) is seen as beneficial. In area's where these are not hunting they flourish, and when they flourish farmers/govt turn to poisons/biological solutions. So which is better? Hunters like me and him tapping them now and then, or bulk poison drops?
